    About Our Restaurant

    St. James Cafe & Cocktails is an elegant, chef-driven tapas restaurant offering refined small plates designed for sharing. Our cuisine highlights bold flavors, seasonal ingredients, and thoughtful technique, with sauces playing a central role in defining each dish.

    We are seeking a Head Chef with exceptional saucier expertise to lead daily kitchen operations, elevate our sauce program, and ensure consistency, creativity, and precision across all plates.

    Position Overview The Head Chef will work closely with ownership to develop menu offerings and execute the culinary vision while managing the kitchen team and service. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with a deep understanding of classical and modern sauces and their application in small-plate, high-execution environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead preparation and execution of all sauces, stocks, reductions, and emulsions

    Oversee daily kitchen operations, prep, and service

    Ensure consistency, balance, and presentation across all tapas dishes

    Train and mentor kitchen staff with a focus on technique and attention to detail

    Collaborate on menu development, specials, and seasonal updates

    Maintain food quality, sanitation, and safety standards

    Manage ordering, inventory, and proper product rotation

    Control food costs while maintaining quality and creativity

    Foster a calm, professional, and organized kitchen culture

    Qualifications

    3–5+ years of experience in professional kitchens, including leadership roles

    Strong background as a saucier or in sauce-driven cuisine

    Experience with tapas, small plates, or shareable menus preferred

    Solid foundation in classical techniques with modern execution

    Excellent palate and understanding of flavor balance

    Strong organizational and communication skills

    Ability to lead by example during high-volume service

    Culinary degree or formal training preferred, but not required
