Head Controller - Real Estate Development - Base Salary to 140k/year - Charlotte, NC
Our client, a small, very well-established real estate development & property management company is in transition and scaling rapidly. This accounting team is responsible for the accounting of approximately 28 entities that either own and operate or are developing properties, as well as for other upper-level affiliate entities. There are a number of intercompany transactions between entities on a monthly basis which adds significant complexity to the accounting process.
The Head Controller will be responsible for the ability to drive and incorporate creation and implementation of improved processes. The impact of the Head Controller role will drive how the organization is allowed to execute and report a wide range of activities are critical to the future success of their accounting team.
Responsibilities:
Oversee financial operations, policy enforcement, risk management, and reporting accuracy across the company
Directly manage the team, ensuring the accuracy of all financial reports, enforcing company-wide spending thresholds, and maintain financial security
Manage/ oversee loan draws, large payment approvals, company benefits (401k, health insurance, HR), and compliance with regulatory and tax teams
Develop a structured system for DST (Delaware Statutory Trust) and MT fund setup, ensuring proper compliance and fund allocation
Collaborate with IQEQ on all fund management requests, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to regulatory guidelines
Ensure all fund structures comply with company strategy and investor requirements
Work closely with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to align accounting and financial policies with company growth objectives
Provide ADHOC reports as needed, ensuring the ELT has the financial data necessary for strategic decision-making
Enhance financial transparency and reporting systems to support company-wide initiatives
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
5+ years of leadership experience in accounting for construction, real estate development, private equity funding, or multi-entity accounting preferred
Strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, and hands-on involvement in high-level day-to-day financial operations
Knowledge of private equity fund compliance, DST (Delaware Statutory Trust) and MT fund setup, IQEQ familiarity, intercompany “due to/ due from” structure
Understanding of real estate development / multi-entity & multi-property investment accounting & Gravity software knowledge highly desired
Experience in Excel, QuickBooks, Net Suite, Sage, Gravity, Expensify or similar
