Wichita Collegiate School (WCS), a thriving Independent School in Wichita, KS, seeks a Varsity Head Football Coach who will also serve as a full-time faculty or staff member. The head coach will be responsible for leading, developing, and managing the varsity football program in alignment with the school’s mission, values, and guiding principles. This position emphasizes academic excellence, sportsmanship, leadership development, and community engagement. The coach fosters an environment where students learn teamwork, discipline, and personal integrity while competing at a high level.
The primary responsibilities :
- Develop, plan, and implement all aspects of the varsity football program, including practices, game strategy, and player development.
- Build and sustain a positive, respectful, and inclusive team culture that supports student-athlete well-being and growth.
- Oversee assistant coaches, providing mentorship, supervision, and coordination across all program levels.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director and school administration on scheduling, budgeting, equipment procurement, and facility use.
- Ensure compliance with league, state, and school athletic policies.
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, faculty, and administration regarding goals, expectations, and outcomes.
- Support student-athletes in balancing academic and athletic responsibilities, promoting strong performance in both areas.
- Contribute as a member of the teaching faculty of the school. Responsibilities will depend on the chosen candidate's skill set.
- Participate in professional development, school events, and community outreach activities.
- Additional responsibilities that enhance the student experience as assigned.
- Collaborate with the middle school program
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, Sports Management, Leadership, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of coaching experience at the varsity, collegiate, or professional level.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and concussion management certifications (or ability to obtain before season start).
- Familiarity with independent school culture and mission-driven athletics preferred.
Work Environment and Expectations
- Practices and games occur after school, on weekends, and occasionally during holidays.
- Participation in school assemblies, open houses, and alumni events is expected.
