Our client is a high-growth player in the property management technology space. Their fully integrated ERP system enables them to automate workflows and unlock valuable real estate data related to all things property management. They are employee-owned, with an incredible culture and a leadership team made up of rockstars culled from both VCs and household name tech companies. They are seeking a driven Head of Accounting with out-of-the-box problem-solving skills to serve as a Subject Matter Expert to the product team as they develop their property accounting offering and potentially serve as a founding Controller for their brand-new property services management group. The ideal candidate will have worked at a top accounting firm before transitioning to an in-house role with some exposure to real estate, and will have managed financials (month-end close, quarterly reporting, etc.) for companies with $1b+ in assets.
This is a hybrid role targeting candidates in/near Dallas or Austin, TX.
Responsibilities:
\- Partner with engineering and product teams to advise on accounting policies and procedures as the company’s property accounting SaaS product is developed
\- Evaluate any system design reviews proposed by the company’s engineering team, confirming that new updates meet IFRS, GAAP, and state trust-account requirements
\- Generate financial statements and perform month-end close procedures for the business
\- Take the lead in compliance and regulatory intelligence by staying abreast of changes in IFRS, ASC, and individual state property management policies and laws
\- Serve as the key point of contact for all accounting policy inquiries
\- Train internal engineering, support staff, and product management teams on complex rules and regulations related to institutional property accounting
\- Serve as a representative of the company, appearing on panels, webinars, and white papers to demonstrate the company’s accounting rigor
\- Set up accounting and finance systems and processes for the client’s new property management arm – eventually building and leading team as that element grows
Qualifications:
\- Bachelor’s degree, required
\- 8-10+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2-3 years in assurance at a top-tier public accounting firm
\- In-house experience at a company with some relation to real estate, required
\- Must have managed financials (month-end close, quarterly reporting, etc.) for companies with $1b+ in assets
\- Subject matter expert of ASC 842/360/805 and trust-account regulations
\- Some exposure to product teams and an understanding of how to liaise with technical talent
\- Excellent customer-facing skills; comfortable leading onboarding and walkthrough sessions with CFOs, Controllers, and auditors
\- Sharp written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to take complex data and insights and boil them down to plain English that can be understood company-wide
\- Best-in-class creative problem-solving skills, ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and wear multiple hats as needed
Compensation: Targeting a base salary of $180-230k
