OVERVIEW:
As the Head of Engineering at SILTT, you will lead our multi-disciplinary team of engineers—the brilliant minds behind our industry-leading data center infrastructure solutions. You will be the technical authority responsible for driving innovation, ensuring design excellence, and guaranteeing the reliability of our critical systems. This role commands a broad scope, from steering R&D in next-generation liquid cooling and modular systems to providing expert support for facility design, commissioning, and lifecycle maintenance. Reporting to the VP of Technology, you will build and mentor a world-class team of Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil-Structural-Architectural (CSA) engineers, establishing the technical vision that keeps SILTT at the forefront of the industry and provides world class services to our Customers.
WHO WE ARE:
At SILTT we’re pushing the limits of infrastructure innovation in the Telecommunications and Information Technology industry. From delivering world-class modular data center facilities to all-hours, 365-day operational response and disaster recovery, our multi-functional team of experts are force multipliers across the infrastructure landscape. We pride ourselves in leading from the front to advise, assist, and accompany our clients through their toughest technological and operational challenges. We always deliver results (spelled “re-SILTTs”)!
WHY SILTT?
At SILTT, “objective-driven” means first being “people-driven”. As a small business we know that the ability to achieve our mission demands we take care of our own by providing our team members with a variety of benefits that allow them to live fulfilling, healthy, balanced, meaningful lives. That’s why we believe in offering paid healthcare, ultra-competitive 401K matching, accrued paid time off and fixed holiday leave, continuous learning and professional development incentives, and promote a sustainable work-life balance.
A CALL TO ACTION:
The data center industry is evolving at an unprecedented pace, driven by the explosive demands of AI and high-density computing. Generic solutions are no longer enough. SILTT is at a pivotal moment, poised to support our customers by pioneering more efficient, scalable, and resilient infrastructure solutions. We are creating this role to find a leader who can harness this opportunity. You are not just managing a team; you are building the engineering engine that will define the future of our solutionspace. We need a visionary leader to accelerate our R&D, standardize our design-for-reliability principles, and build a team that can solve the most complex infrastructure challenges our clients face.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
This role will be a dynamic blend of deep technical leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on mentorship. On any given day, you might find yourself:
Leading a cross-functional design review for a new modular data center solution, challenging your team's assumptions on power distribution and thermal management.
Whiteboarding a complex controls sequence with your mechanical and electrical engineers to optimize the performance of a new liquid cooling technology.
Collaborating with the operations team to conduct a root cause analysis on a critical equipment failure and subsequently refining the preventative maintenance strategy.
Presenting the technical roadmap and R&D budget to the executive team, making a compelling case for investment in next-generation technologies.
Meeting with key vendors and partners to evaluate new components or systems that could give SILTT a competitive edge or better support our customers’ supply chain needs.
Mentoring a rising engineering star on their career development, helping them grow into a future leader within the organization.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Engineering team
Assume full ownership of the team’s budget, resource allocation, and performance metrics, driving accountability as the team’s leader
Build and scale a world-class, multi-disciplinary engineering team by actively recruiting, hiring, and retaining top talent
Define the team structure, roles, and responsibilities to create a foundation for future growth
Mentor, coach, and develop engineering talent at all levels
Foster a culture of innovation, technical rigor, collaboration, and continuous learning within your new division
Lead the R&D efforts for next-generation data center technologies, including modular systems and advanced liquid cooling
Oversee all engineering support for all engineering services, from conceptual design and commissioning to preventative maintenance and spares planning
Develop and implement engineering standards, design principles, and processes to ensure quality, safety, and operational excellence across all projects
Manage the Change Management process and tooling of any released documents and engineering elements across the technical date package (parts lists, CAD models, drawings, board layouts, specifications, preliminary and critical design reviews)
Partner closely with Operations program teams to align the engineering roadmap with business objectives and service agreements
Represent the engineering division in executive-level meetings and with key clients

12+ years of progressive engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a formal leadership role managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams
Significant experience in the design, construction, or operation of data centers or other critical infrastructure (hospitals, industrial facilities, power plants)
Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects from concept through execution and operational handoff
Strong understanding of the interplay between MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and CSA (Civil, Structural, Architectural) systems
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's degree in an engineering discipline or an MBA
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is highly desirable
Deep expertise in data center commissioning processes (Level 1-5) and reliability engineering principles
Experience with financial planning, including budget forecasting, resource allocation, and vendor contract negotiation
A proven track record of innovation, such as patents or publications in a relevant field
ABILITY TO WORK REMOTE:
Partially remote. The work associated with this role is expected to be performed mostly remote, though may be performed on-site as desired to support our local R&D engineering and integration staff at our Leesburg, VA campus, and will require periodic travel to support our customers and attend conferences.
