    Position Overview

    CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist to maintain medical records and health information systems at a federal metropolitan detention center in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. You will manage inmate health records, process release of information requests, ensure documentation compliance, and support clinical coding and data reporting within Bureau of Prisons health information standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain, organize, and secure inmate health records in both electronic and paper formats per BOP policies
    • Process release of information requests in compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, and BOP disclosure regulations
    • Audit medical records for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of clinical documentation
    • Assign ICD-10 and CPT codes for clinical encounters and procedures
    • Compile statistical reports on healthcare utilization, workload data, and quality metrics
    • Coordinate medical record transfers for inmate movements between BOP facilities
    • Support ACA/NCCHC accreditation by maintaining health records compliance documentation
    • Train clinical staff on documentation requirements and health record procedures

    Required Qualifications

    • Associate degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, or related field
    • RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
    • Proficiency with electronic health record systems
    • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security regulations
    • Minimum 1 year of health information management experience
    • U.S. citizenship required
    • Ability to pass federal background investigation

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
    • Correctional or federal healthcare HIM experience
    • CCS or CPC coding certification

    Compensation and Benefits

    • Salary: $50,000 - $67,000 annually
