Position Overview
CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist to maintain medical records and health information systems at a federal prison camp in Alderson, West Virginia. FPC Alderson is a minimum-security federal prison camp for female inmates in rural southeastern West Virginia. You will manage inmate health records, process release of information requests, and support clinical coding and compliance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and secure inmate health records in electronic and paper formats
- Process release of information requests per HIPAA and BOP regulations
- Audit medical records for completeness and compliance
- Assign ICD-10 and CPT codes for clinical encounters
- Compile healthcare utilization and quality metric reports
- Coordinate medical record transfers between BOP facilities
- Support ACA/NCCHC accreditation documentation
- Train clinical staff on documentation requirements
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field
- RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
- EHR system proficiency
- HIPAA knowledge
- U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to pass federal background investigation
Preferred Qualifications
- Federal or correctional HIM experience
- Coding certification (CCS or CPC)
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $45,000 - $58,000 annually
