  • Responsibilities

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Operates the Outage Management System (OMS) to: (a) detect and respond to distribution outages as required; (b) analyze and promptly act on OMS incidence(s) to locate the trouble, assist the field crews in troubleshooting outages with all information available, determine if possible damage/problem should be repaired on an emergency basis or during regular work hours; (c) monitor and respond to alarm status on all distribution lines as reported by the OMS; (d) responsible for updating the OMS by maintaining PragmaView in real time; (e) prepare and maintain daily operations logs, regions logs, and assists in preparation of major outage reports as necessary, to account for CAIDI, SAIDI, CAIFI, SAIFI, etc., documentation, and pertinent information regarding alarms, reporting them to the appropriate departments; (f) report issues with telephone and CATV lines to respective companies.
    • Under supervision, directs the switching and restoration activities of servicemen, linemen, and construction crews as required for distribution system construction, maintenance and all outages, with emphasis on employee safety and revenue protection.  Via SCADA: (a) operates circuit breakers, re-closers; tagging relays, etc.; (b) evaluates requests for clearances and Right-To-Work (RTWs) on the distribution system; (c) prepares switching orders for Clearances, RTWs and all distribution system switching activities; (d) analyzes distribution system loading and conditions.  Issues switching, tagging, and grounding instructions via radio and/or telephone to servicemen, linemen, construction crews, and contractors, as required to maintain customer service integrity; contacts/coordinates with Miss-U for underground facility repairs after hours.
    • Monitors: (a) the weather satellite system to provide timely reports of any severe weather warnings/watches, etc. to senior management and recommends the need to hold or bring in crews to the appropriate personnel; (b) the use of SMECO two-way radio system with authority to restrict usage.  Operates radio in accordance with Co-op and FCC regulations.
    • Utilizes software products including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, RNPDC, ESRI (GIS), M3i (OMS), C3 ILEX (SCADA), ARCOS and WinECP.
    • Provides information to the Customer Care Center Supervisors so they can determine the need for activation of the Cooperative's Customer Care Center during off-business hours based on electric system conditions and outage severity.
    • Evaluates SMECO Emergency Desk calls and determines required course of action.  Perform other such duties as assigned and completes training necessary to maintain and enhance job performance.

    Required Skills

    Two years of college or equivalent experience, with specialized training in electric utility operation and maintenance.  Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

    Required Experience

    Minimum five years progressive experience in the operation, construction and maintenance of electric utility systems.  SCADA/OMS experience preferred.

  • Qualifications

    Two years of college or equivalent experience, with specialized training in electric utility operation and maintenance.  Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
