    Job Description

    PURPOSE:

    The RISK MANAGEMENT PROGRAM MANAGER works under general supervision of the Director of Risk Management in managing the implementation of the organization’s integrated, collaborative, and evidence-based enterprise risk management program in the identification, analysis, evaluation and management of Company's exposure to accidental, unintended, or unforeseen losses through risk control and risk financing methods. The Risk Management Program Manager provides expertise in healthcare informatics and decision analysis, consisting of the design, creation, and maintenance of data infrastructure and programs that identify, evaluate, and monitor areas of risk.

     

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plan and contribute to development of risk management systems.
    • Manages the incident reporting system (IRS) including classification, investigation, evaluation, trending, analysis and aggregated reporting. Maintain IRS data in information systems or databases; add, edit and delete IRS system user accounts. Serve as one of Company contacts with Clarity and provides technical guidance and works in cooperation with departments of Company to help assure that their safety and risk needs are being met.
    • Analyzes incidents and investigates claims to identify potential risks and limit or prevent loss. 
    • Communication of risk management and patient safety activities across the organization with a focus on development of a safety culture including transparency, organizational learning, development and delivery of education on risk management and patient safety topics.
    • Recommends appropriate revisions to new or existing policies and procedures to reduce the frequency of future occurrences, recommends ways to minimize risks and/or improve patient safety through system improvements.
    • Provide subject matter expertise in risk education, database design, data integration, return-on-investment (ROI) modeling, decision analysis, report design and publication, educational programming, and department information management. policies and procedures, and track compliance with risk-assessments
    • Conducts root cause analysis (RCA) and intensive risk analysis with teams involved in patient safety events and documents the process according to department policy.
    • Researches evidence based best practices related to risk management, patient safety, and related topics.
    • Provides project management of risk management initiatives and related performance improvement activities.
    • May provide backup support and coverage to the Director of Risk Management position, as needed.
    • Work with staff, contractors and attorneys from other agencies, companies, insurance vendors, etc., as requested.
    • Gather risk-related data from internal or external resources and organizational performance information to identify and analyze areas of potential risk to the assets, earning capacity, or success of Company.
    • Additional duties, projects and responsibilities as assigned.

     

     MIN. QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience organizing and defining tasks, setting priorities, independent work, and operating effectively and efficiently under fluctuating, high-risk, and emergent conditions.
    • Proven ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
    • Experience leading multi-disciplinary projects, working on cross-functional teams, and managing communication with patients, visitors, staff, clinical providers, and executive leadership.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of disciplines and levels of staff by establishing and maintaining working relationships. 
    • Tactful negotiation with a wide variety of agencies and individuals.
    • Manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously.
    • Use computer hardware and software including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, etc.
    • Ability to clearly identify and convey key points from complex analyses and proposals in both formal and informal settings.
    • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential material with discretion.
    • Plan, analyze, and evaluate programs and services, operational needs, and fiscal constraints.
    • Knowledge of The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and California Department of Public Health regulatory requirements (preferred).
    • Valid California driver’s license, vehicle insurance, reliable transportation and acceptable driving record.

     

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, business, accounting, finance, insurance, or legal is required; Master’s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of progressively responsible experience in insurance management, risk management, safety management; or education and experience may be considered.
    • At least two (2) years’ experience with Risk Management or related field is preferred with experience in a medical setting including multiple department and multiple project management; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Current possession of, or ability to attain risk management certification from an accredited entity within one year of hire in the position.
    • Current possession of, or ability to attain LEAN or project management certification (preferred)
