Salary: $183,750 - $187,500 Annually

Job Summary:
The Medical Director is primarily responsible for the provision of productive and quality medical practice and the provision and support of the treatment of Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders. The Medical Director will act as a liaison between behavioral health services and medical/ primary care services, as well as provide education and support for all drug counselors, health and wellness coordinators, and all ancillary medical staff in the outpatient and residential programs. The Medical Director will provide oversight of Medically Assisted Treatment to those enrolled in behavioral health programs including residential facilities, outpatient programs and respective clinics within HealthRIGHT 360 following Incidental Medical Services regulations set forth by the Department of Healthcare Services.
What You´ll Do:
Leadership/Management:
Acts as primary liaison between behavioral health and medical/primary care programs.
Is the primary resource for HealthRIGHT 360 behavioral health programs regarding the medical treatment of Substance Related and Addictive Disorders.
Produces and oversees policies and procedures for the delivery of Medically Assisted Treatment as well as develops and implements policies pertaining to the Medical Department.
Clinical Staff Direction Responsibilities:
Provides medical supervision and oversight of quality of care among providers and ancillary staff in clinical areas.
Reviews employees’ performance provides feedback and makes recommendations for individual performance improvement and development for medical providers and other staff.
Orients new physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, monitors performance during initial employment and thereafter through chart audits, utilization review and other processes.
Medical Practice:
Provides Medically Assisted Treatment to patients suffering from Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders.
Provides primary care and other medical care as appropriate and per approved privileges.
Provides consultation and support to Primary care team for medication assisted treatment, primary care, and other medical care as appropriate and per approved privileges.
Behavioral Health:
Reviews medical screening for patients entering behavioral health outpatient services, assessing their substance use disorder, candidacy for medically assisted treatment, and linking them to primary care.
Acts as a consultant and supports behavioral health personnel providing care to patients who are receiving Medically Assisted Treatment in the residential facilities and outpatient services.
Acts as liaison for complex medical questions occurring in behavioral health facilities and supporting triaging of patients to reduce inappropriate emergency room referrals.
Agency Development/Support Responsibilities:
Acts as lead or co-lead in continuing the advance of the integration of behavioral health and medical services for the agency.
Participates in all leadership team activities.
Precepts medical students, residents, and fellows as appropriate.
What You´ll Need:
Education, Certification, Licensure
Graduation from an accredited M.D. or D.O. school.
Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Addiction Medicine, or related.
Possession of a valid California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.
Possession of a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate is required. Eligible to participate in the CMS Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement programs.
Current BLS/ACLS certification or ability to obtain prior to hire.
Maintain 5.0 continuing medical education credits of addiction medicine training yearly.
Training and Experience
Successful completion of medical residency.
Completion of fellowship in Addiction Medicine/Addiction Psychiatry preferred.
Experience working in outpatient mental health preferred.
Medication-Assisted Treatment experience preferred.
Experience with EHR systems.
Three to five years’ experience as a licensed primary care physician and/or addiction physician.
Experience working with patients with addiction and co-occurring disorders such a mental illness and chronic medical conditions.
Experience with integrating safe management of pain syndromes within primary care preferred.
Experience with and knowledge of third-party payer requirements, California practice guidelines and malpractice laws, Title 22, Bureau of Primary Care, and state funding sources preferred.
Competencies
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Understanding of innovations and changes in primary care practice, including patient centered medical home, team-based care, integrated care.
Command of continuous quality improvement to enhance and provide high quality care, including the use of data to drive change.
Other Requirements
Must be able to meet health screening and TB test requirements.
Must be able to meet and maintain credentialing requirements.
Must be able to obtain and maintain satisfactory background check.
