HEALTHCARE FACILITY SURVEYOR - REMOTE
Essential HealthCare Solutions (“EHS”) is seeking experienced, detail-oriented Facility Surveyors to join our nationwide healthcare compliance and quality review team. Surveyors play a critical role in evaluating healthcare facilities for compliance with federal and state regulations governing patient care, resident safety, operational standards, and quality outcomes. Team members work alongside multidisciplinary professionals to conduct on-site reviews at healthcare facilities throughout the United States. POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is remote, with extensive nationwide travel requirements of up to 75%.
Healthcare Facility Surveyors serve as either team members or team leaders on a variety of healthcare facility surveys and investigations involving long-term care and other healthcare settings. Surveys are conducted to assess compliance with federal healthcare regulations and evaluate the quality and safety of patient care and facility operations.
Facility types may include:
- Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs)
- State Veterans Homes (SVH)
- Community Living Centers (CLC)
- Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC)
- ESRD Facilities
- Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF)
- Hospital
- Critical Access hospitals
- Hospice Facilities
Surveyors participate in:
- Recertification surveys
- Complaint investigations
- Comparative review
- Follow-up surveys
- Compliance monitoring visits
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct onsite healthcare facility surveys and compliance reviews in accordance with CMS, VA, and federal regulatory standards
- Evaluate healthcare operations, resident care practices, staffing, infection prevention, patient rights, and physical environment conditions
- Perform:
- Facility walkthroughs
- Clinical observations
- Medical record review
- Staff and resident interviews
- Policy and procedure assessments
- Determine compliance and noncompliance with applicable regulations and standards
- Identify deficient practices and document findings accurately and thoroughly
- Communicate survey findings and regulatory concerns with facility leadership throughout the review process
- Participate in entrance conferences, daily team discussions, and exit conferences
- Review corrective action plans and determine the adequacy of proposed remediation actions
- Complete detailed written reports and supporting documentation
- Utilize CMS and VA survey systems, including ASPEN and IQIES
- Participate in surveyor training activities, internal meetings, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare, clinical, or related discipline required
- Minimum of two (2) years’ recent experience conducting healthcare facility surveys, accreditation reviews, regulatory inspections, or compliance evaluations
- Experience with CMS, long-term care, or healthcare regulatory survey processes strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage survey activities and prioritize multiple assignments
- Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to professionally address conflict, discuss regulatory findings, and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work remotely in a HIPAA-compliant environment
- Ability and willingness to travel nationwide up to 75% of the time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CMS Long-Term Care Basic Training completion
- Successful completion of the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT)
- Active clinical licensure highly preferred, including:
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Registered Dietitian (RD)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Other related healthcare licenses or fields
Prior VA, CMS, or state survey agency experience

COMPENSATION
- $80,000 to $92,000 annually
