Heavy Industrial Maintenance Electrical Technician
Location: Charleston, WV (On-site, Full-Time)
Compensation: $100K–$120K
Reports to: Electrical Maintenance Supervisor
Type: Full-time | Direct Hire | Ground-Floor Role
Sector: Heavy Industry | Steel Manufacturing
About the Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to help stand up a brand-new, state-of-the-art steel mill—one of the largest in the country. You won’t be pulling wire in a strip mall or wiring office lights. This is high-voltage, high-impact work on a greenfield industrial site producing over 3 million tons of steel annually. You’ll be hands-on with massive AC/DC motors, PLCs, 480V–13.8kV systems, and motor control centers powering 24/7 production.
We’re looking for electrically skilled professionals who thrive in demanding environments, can handle the pressure of keeping mission-critical systems online, and want to grow long-term with a performance-driven company that invests in its people.
What You’ll Do
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot complex electrical systems (480V–13.8kV) supporting furnaces, rollers, cranes, and auxiliary equipment
• Execute preventative and corrective maintenance on production-critical electrical infrastructure
• Work with PLCs, instrumentation, and motor control systems to ensure operational uptime
• Support commissioning efforts during initial plant ramp-up—equipment testing, punch lists, and process tuning
• Take ownership of safety procedures and lead by example in high-energy environments
• Train and mentor teammates in proper electrical diagnostics, lockout/tagout, and system-level troubleshooting
• Participate in shift handovers and detailed maintenance reporting First-Year Expectations in a Greenfield Mill
• Assist with final buildout and commissioning of electrical systems
• Develop system knowledge quickly to respond to unexpected failures
• Support rapid shift coverage and overtime needs as the plant stabilizes
• Operate with flexibility as roles evolve with ramp-up and production scaling
This Is Not For You If
• You’re used to commercial or residential work and prefer clean, predictable environments
•You’re looking for a clock-in, clock-out role with minimal urgency
•You’re uncomfortable working in rotating shifts, weekends, and high-heat, high-load
environments
You’re a Fit If You Bring
• 2+ years of experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment—steel, aluminum, pulp/paper, chemicals, or similar
• Proficiency with high and low voltage systems, large-scale AC/DC drives, PLCs, and MCCs
• Strong foundation in electrical theory and applied troubleshooting under pressure
• Military background with hands-on electrical, mechanical, or maintenance leadership is highly valued
•Safety-first mindset, strong work ethic, and team-oriented problem solving
Why This Role Matters
This mill is a major investment in U.S. steel production—and it needs rock-solid electrical reliability to run 24/7. Your work will directly support the productivity, safety, and longevity of a $B-scale operation. You’re not just maintaining systems—you’re helping build a legacy.
Long-Term Commitment
This isn’t a temp project or a gig—it’s a career launchpad. The company promotes from within, rewards performance, and is looking for techs who want to grow into leadership roles over time. If you’re ready to put down roots in a serious industrial operation and take ownership from day one, this is your shot.
