Based in Austin, TX, but located all across the US, Hellas Construction is looking for a hands on working Bilingual Regional Safety Manager to join our Team. Our ideal candidate will be engaging, collaborative, have excellent communication skills, be adept at building productive relationships, effectively bring best practices forward for practical application, have excellent attention to detail and be passionate about helping others. This role will lead and manage all aspects of employee health and safety in a manner that is consistent with the mission and values of Hellas Construction. Essential to success in this role is the ability to establish trust and credibility with our field teams to effectively drive proactive behavior that results in safe and incident free work environments for all employees. This individual will take ownership for advancing our core value of Safety by ensuring that a culture where all employees “do today what you would do tomorrow if we had an accident” exists and is thriving.
The main focus of this position is the coordination, administration, promotion, and delivery of safety programs impacting the operations, its employees, contractors, and other third parties, and patrons, reducing the risk of injuries from incidents, accidents, and other hazards. Collects, organizes, records and verifies accuracy of data and information from various sources, as necessary.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Oversees health and safety policies and procedures for the region.
- Ensures that field employees are in compliance with OSHA, general industry, and customer specific policies and procedures through the regular use of audits and inspections.
- Assist with training programs that address new hire orientation, equipment training, specific skill training, customer specific training, and company safety behavior expectations.
- Performs safety inspections and post-accident investigations. Prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective actions or preventive measures. Follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Spends extensive time in the field (up to three days per week) auditing programs and jobs and training/mentoring members of the safety team
- Ensure thorough evaluation and assessment of safety and health incidents, particularly involving highly visible and complex situations. Providing oversight to recommendations for procedure and continuous safety program improvement
- Maintain knowledge of health and safety regulations/requirements, regulatory directives, safety-related technological developments and assigned activities. Ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations
- Represents the organization in external professional associations and before regulatory bodies, local governments and/or civic organizations as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, engineering, construction with 7 to 10 years of previous work experience. Solid knowledge of state and local statutes and ordinances on fire safety and prevention, loss control, hazardous chemicals, building, electrical, noise pollution and the environment.
- Commercial/Industrial safety programs, including experience in program development a plus.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional safety designations (CSP, CHST, CSHO, etc.)
- Progressive experience in manufacturing, construction and fleet environments
- Excellent business acumen and superior analytical problem-solving skills
- Experience developing and managing budgets, proven leadership skills, with at least ten years of supervisory experience
- Management-level strategic planning and performance management experience
- Highly developed interpersonal communications skills
- Experience in developing and implementing employee “Zero Harm” programs
- Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time sensitive priorities
- Ability to articulate complex, technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences under normal and emergency conditions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead collaboration across diverse teams within a large organization and inspire confidence to motivate groups collectively to meet common objectives
- FLUENT IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH
- MUST BE WILLING TO TRAVEL FOR PERIODS OF TIME
