    Job Description

    Helping Hands Community is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving those most vulnerable to COVID-19. Our technology platform empowers community partners—including food banks, health care providers, and local governments—to deliver groceries and other essential supplies at scale through our network of delivery partners and volunteers. Founded by veterans of Uber, Facebook, and Google, the Helping Hands Community organization comprises more than 150 volunteers from professionals who want to give back to students beginning their careers from around the country.

    About the role We are looking for an experienced UX designer to help develop and expand our partner tools platform to scale. The partner tools is a B2B SaaS product used by food banks and other partner organizations around the country to help deliver food to those in need. We are looking for someone that can help with near term improvements to the experience as well as have strategic vision to lay out the design needed to overhaul the product in the next few months. You will participate in planning with the Head of Design and project managers. We are looking for someone who is excited equally by creating innovative design solutions and guiding other designers to collaborate.

    What you'll do

    • Rapid creation of prototypes or mock ups for demonstration and feedback
    • Prioritize features for near term release and longer term strategy
    • Contribute to delivery of architecture-focused deliverables in projects (e.g., information architecture, taxonomy, content structures, etc.)
    • Act as a lead for 2 designers to collaboratively solve complex task-flow problems
    • Partner with product, engineering, and ops to keep us aligned

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years experience as a designer in fast paced tech organizations or startup environments
    • Strong portfolio that demonstrates an expert capability in user centric problem solving
    • Exercises independent judgment with minimal direction from supervisor
    • Participating in defining and driving strategic direction from a user experience perspective
    • Demonstrated ability to determine the unspoken needs of a user creating a delightful experience
    • Experience working with product managers, developers, and other cross-functional partners to actively define the direction of the product
    • Capable of understanding and articulating technical feasibility of solutions

    Bonus qualifications

    • Experience creating multi-step data processing workflows
    • Experience designing informative and action driven dashboards
    • Experience mentoring other designers

    COMMITMENT TO THE TEAM The majority of volunteers are devoting time outside of their other job to support Helping Hands Community. THE DEMANDS FOR A SENIOR ROLE LIKE THIS REQUIRES SOMEONE WHO CAN DEVOTE AT LEAST 15 HOURS PER WEEK TO THIS JOB FOR THE NEXT 2-3 MONTHS. Because the team is dispersed across the country and due to the unique hours individuals are working, frequent use of communication channels like Slack, Notion, and email are critical to ensure no one is bottle necking decisions or tasks.
