Helping Hands Community is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving those most vulnerable to COVID-19. Our technology platform empowers community partners—including food banks, health care providers, and local governments—to deliver groceries and other essential supplies at scale through our network of delivery partners and volunteers. Founded by veterans of Uber, Facebook, and Google, the Helping Hands Community organization comprises more than 150 volunteers from professionals who want to give back to students beginning their careers from around the country.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a UX designer with a passion to solve data processing and task flow problems for desktop and mobile devices. Our partner console is a B2B SaaS product used by food banks and other partner organizations around the country to help deliver food to those in need. The designer will work with a lead designer and small group focused on this space to scale growth with experience improvements. It will focus both on short-term changes and long-term strategies. Project designs include task flows with inline error fixing, creating dashboard overviews, and thinking about mobile experiences for partners handling day of event needs. As we continue to scale, we will look to you to help build and grow our talented design team.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Provide mockup deliverables to meet near-term engineering needs
    • Create concepts for a core product redesign and present them to stakeholders
    • Create dashboards for desktop and mobile that allow partners to see actions they need to take
    • Redesign a task flow for creating events
    • Rapid creation of prototypes or mockups for demonstration and feedback
    • Partner with product, engineering, and ops to keep aligned
    • Work with the rest of the design team to incorporate designs into building out a design system in Figma and with the engineering team

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A strong portfolio that demonstrates user-centric problem solving
    • Exercises independent judgment with minimal direction from the supervisor
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct design thinking exercises to identify core needs
    • Experience designing with responsive layouts for tasks and data displays
    • Experience with action-driven dashboards
    • Experience working with product managers, developers, and other cross-functional partners to actively define the direction of the product

    BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

    • 2+ years experience as a designer with web applications
    • Experience creating multi-step data processing workflows
    • Excellence with Figma and creating reusable components

    COMMITMENT TO THE TEAM

The majority of volunteers are devoting time outside of their other job to support the Helping Hands Community. THE DEMANDS FOR A ROLE LIKE THIS REQUIRES SOMEONE WHO CAN DEVOTE AT LEAST 15 HOURS PER WEEK TO THIS JOB FOR THE NEXT 2-3 MONTHS. Because the team is dispersed across the country and due to the unique hours individuals are working, frequent use of communication channels like Slack, Notion, and email is critical to ensure no one is bottlenecking decisions or tasks.
