    ROLE DESCRIPTION: 

    At Hermeus, you'll have the opportunity to drive the design of propulsion architecture of high-speed (hypersonic) point-to-point vehicles. You'll own a number of the propulsion system integrations to the engine and airframe as well as run the structural and mechanical analysis of the engine. This position will report directly to the CTO.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of propulsion systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines
    • Lead support for current hardware while planning and executing substantial revision for adding functionality or optimized operation
    • Engage in the development cycle of combustion devices including hardware fabrication, assembly, hardware verification and test
    • Design manufacturing processes to increase build rate and reduce variability and build time
    • Identify and communicate technical, cost, and schedule risks
    • Interact with engineers and technicians from all disciplines, including production, test, avionics, GNC, and flight and ground software
    • Develop new technologies and concepts for improvement of existing and future products
    • Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with design teams and equipment manufacturers
    • Help develop ground and flight test campaigns to validate hardware

    REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineer or similar
    • 5+ years of experience in automotive or aerospace manufacturing environments
    • Strong technical fundamentals in propulsion, fluids, thermodynamics, and combustion analysis
    • Experience using CAD to design parts/assemblies (OnShape, Pro-E, SolidWorks, NX, or similar)
    • Experience developing hardware from concept to working prototypes

    PREFERRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

    • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering field
    • Analytical/scientific programming experience (Python, Matlab, Excel, etc.)
    • Experience with aircraft propulsion control systems
    • Combustion device (jet engine) experience
    • Rotating turbomachinery experience
    • Experience with thermal analysis and high heat
