    The Sr. Business Systems Analyst, Business Intelligence (BSA) is primarily responsible for leading the Business Intelligence (BI) product area for the Enrollment Technology Solutions team (ETS) in Enrollment. The BSA will enhance and facilitate technology innovation and efficiency improvement, and will serve as the technology lead in their product area for Enrollment. As part of the overall federated IT model, the BSA will work closely with the Platform Product Manager in Information Media Technology (IMT) to leverage and extend the platform for Enrollment’s needs. The BSA will also be responsible for developing effective reports and dashboards to help drive strategic university decision making, including extracting and visually organizing data from enterprise software for use by Enrollment leadership. This position will help provide technical support for the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), and contribute to the design of Dimensional Data Models and Extract Transform Load (ETL) for the BI program. This position requires technical and analytical skill, high functional knowledge, communication, coordination, leadership, and innovation.

     

    The BSA will work closely with functional teams and executive Enrollment leadership to gather requirements and translate them into effective BI solutions. These solutions include creation or modification of reports, scorecards, dashboards, or additional data models from the EDW and other enterprise software.  This position must have a strong working knowledge of data structures and business processes for enrollment areas such as Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, and Student Financials. The BSA must have robust operational reporting experience, including building effective measures toward goals, productivity, and efficiency. 

     

    As the lead for the BI product area in Enrollment, the BSA must have the ability to train and mentor others in the data reporting areas of the organization. This position must also help drive strategic direction in data reporting and analytics, including advocating for technology innovation and process efficiencies. The BSA must be familiar with the construction of data standards, including data dictionaries, data mapping, and quality management while advocating for their adoption throughout the organization.

     

    This role requires good leadership acumen, excellent problem solving skills, a strong ability to learn, and the ability to adapt to shifting requirements. The person in this position must be able to coordinate and marshal resources from multiple areas to help deliver effective BI solutions.

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business Administration, Business Systems, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, or similar.
    • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Engineering or similar, or equivalent experience preferred.

     

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Working knowledge in projects involving data mining, data visualization, reporting, and dashboards is required.
    • 5-9 years of experience with the following:
      • Database reporting with student information systems or related database reporting. PS Query and BI Publisher preferred.
      • Experience in an enrollment management ERP environment, preferably in PeopleSoft Campus Solutions
      • Business intelligence models and data visualization tools, e.g., Tableau, Domo, Power BI, or PS Query, BI Publisher, or similar.
      • Data mining tools. Rapid Miner or Oracle Data Miner preferred. (2-5 years preferred)
      • Business Intelligence/Database Warehouse Architect in combination with database analysis or other relevant, equivalent work experience.
      • Strong experience with designing, developing, and maintaining best ETL implementations from business requirements.
    • Experience with IDEs such as Oracle SQL Developer, Aqua Data Studio, or similar.
    • Experience leading teams without a direct line of authority.
    • Strong customer service experience with an emphasis on customer satisfaction.
    • Experience with incident, configuration and change management.
    • Experience with programming languages such as VBScript, Java, or Python a plus.
    • Experience in an Agile development environment preferred.

     

    PRIMARY DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Provides technical leadership within BI product area for Enrollment to establish reporting and analytic requirements.
    • Drives continuous improvement, change management, and other disciplines to promote innovation for product area in Enrollment.
    • Designs and develops queries, reports, presentations, scorecards, and dashboards that meet customer and institutional requirements.
    • Responds to customer requests for ad-hoc reporting, including developing custom reports, queries, and tools, as needed.
    • Designs and develops ETL processes.
    • Supports data profiling and mapping exercises to support the design and development of efficient ETL.
    • Creates business intelligence tools and reports, such as physical data models and dimensional analyses.
    • Designs, codes, tests, and aggregates results from SQL queries to provide information to users.
    • Participates in the design, development, and analysis of data architecture and warehousing approaches.
    • Collaborates in data design walkthroughs to communicate Data Warehouse and Data Mart table designs to the development team.
    • Develops prototype views and reports of the data, and works with business users, both internal and external, to obtain and refine their requirements.
    • Collaborates and works with cross functional IT and business teams.
    • Creates efficient and well-designed data models that meet business requirements.
    • Documents and maintains report and term definitions.
    • Helps area data teams with the process of building and maintaining reporting tools and dashboards for Enrollment.
    • Performs data analysis, business process capture, and database design activities in collaboration with data analysts, functional users and area resources.
    • Serves as internal consultant to functional users in relation to system capability, extraction, and manipulation of decision-making information.
    • Works closely with data analysts and IMT staff in diagnosing system-related problems and in documenting support for business intelligence applications.
    • Works closely with the Executive Director and other area leadership to understand business needs, optimize business processes and systems configuration, and prioritize work in the product area.
    • Cooperates with other partnering areas on campus to ensure best data practices, including furthering of effective data standards, data dictionaries, data mapping, and quality management and advocates for their adoption throughout the organization.
    • Adheres to university-wide methodologies for change management, work management, and project management.
    • In conjunction with Executive Director, IMT, and other enrollment areas, helps develop and prioritize product area-based backlog.
    • Provides feedback to department management regarding potential projects and initiatives within BI product area.
    • Facilitates, provides, and arranges training and knowledge transfer within BI product area, including training on new business tools.
    • Supports design of dimensional data models to build up available data within the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
    • Responsible for daily electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position.
    • Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    • Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple tasks and projects at once in a deadline oriented environment.
    • Ability to identify, analyze, troubleshoot and solve complex technical and functional problems.
    • Ability to learn new technical skills quickly and identify resources to assist in that learning.
    • Ability to work efficiently in designing and implementing technical solutions.
    • Ability to translate end-user needs into functional designs.

    • Certified Scrum Product Owner a plus.
    • Familiarity with Predictive Analytics and Data mining preferred.
    • Knowledge of IT systems in general and experience troubleshooting basic client issues.
    • Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional a plus.
    • A solid knowledge of OLAP and MDX is preferred.
    • Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate preferred.
    • Knowledge of MuleSoft is preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of software development.

    COMPENSATION

    • Grade 14: $35.44 - $46.08/hour
