    PIH Health is a nonprofit regional healthcare delivery network founded over 50 years ago. Our two campuses including a 548-bed facility in Whittier and a 199-bed facility in Downey, help to provide services to approximately 1.5 million residents in Los Angeles, Orange County and the greater San Gabriel Valley.

     

    The Referral Representative works under general supervision and is responsible for the coordination of patient referrals, to include submission, tracking, patient scheduling, and closing the loop on all referrals as well as the coordination of treatment for hospital and/or ancillary services. Entails communicating with Office and UM staff as well as Payors and patients. The Referral Coordinator ensures an efficient referral process which provides a seamless consistent process of referral for the patient across all providers/specialties.

    Required Skills

    Critical thinking and problem solving skills to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and tactfully; knowledge of customer service principles and practices; attention to detail, actively listens and always follows appropriate channels of communication; excellent organizational and follow-through skills, able to prioritize and balance multiple assignments; ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality; uses time efficiently, able to deal with frequent change or unexpected events; must be able to handle multiple tasks with interruption; good memory, pleasant voice; knowledge and ability to perform tasks with Microsoft Office software; knowledge of ICD-9 CM and CPT coding systems; Spanish/Chinese bilingual preferred.

    Required Experience

    Formal training will be indicated by a high school diploma or equivalent; at least 1 year of experience in a medical office or hospital setting: previous experience with ICD-9 & CPT coding systems; medical terminology; basic knowledge of frequently ordered diagnostic tests preferred; ability to maintain composure & balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
