Academic Coach Job Description (1:1 Position) Schedule: Available to work 8:30-4:00 Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 8:30-1:00 on Wednesdays Able to be present 1:1 with student throughout the school day both inside the classroom and outside the classroom (recess and lunch times) with the exception of scheduled, required breaks. Academic Supports: Implementing behavior supports for particular students Help student self-advocate for resources such as class notes, Dragon, assistive technology, support from the teacher, and other resources. Locate resources for accommodations. Assist teacher in creating alternative assessments for students on modified curriculum. Provide academic support to students with disabilities. Assist the student INSIDE of the classroom as much as possible. Support might be in small group or one-to-one within the classroom. Provide one-to-one or small group instruction outside of the classroom to reinforce concepts, re-teach, or pre-teach (frontload) as needed. Review classroom content. Help students organize. Nurture the social/emotional development of students (self confidence, self awareness, self advocacy). Break down work into manageable chunks. Suggest modifications or accommodations to other staff if needed Behavioral Support: Data collection on specified behaviors Uses a positive behavior system as designed by Ed Specialists/School Psychologist/Outside Agency in order to positively reinforce desired behaviors Endurance and physical capacity to remain within arm's distance of the student at all times throughout the day. Ability to verbally diffuse and physically evade while managing agitated/aggressive student behavior Willingness to be trained and certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (including physical intervention)
