Highland Country Club is searching for a highly skilled controller to replace a long-tenured staff member. The ideal candidate is a team player who has strong organizational skills, attention to detail and is willing and able to sort out complex accounting and financial matters. Has demonstrated the ability to follow through on commitments and meet deadlines along with the ability to multi-task and adapt to various situations and needs quickly. This position directs the financial operations of the club, manages the accounting functions, and reports to the General Manager. Experience working with JONAS club management software a plus.

Perfectly positioned in central North Carolina, Fayetteville boasts easy access to all that the Carolinas have to offer (an hour to Raleigh/Durham, an hour to Pinehurst, 90 minutes to both Wilmington and Myrtle Beach). Fayetteville is also known for being the home of Ft. Bragg the 82nd Airborne Division. With a vibrant downtown area, including the recent opening of Segra Stadium, Fayetteville is one of the most up and coming cities in North Carolina. The familyoriented facilities include a clubhouse with ballroom and 4 banquet rooms, 2 bars and a grill and veranda area that cater to members dining needs. 18-hole Donald Ross golf course, 7 Har Tru tennis courts and a pool with snack bar area. The club is supported by 820 members partaking in golf, tennis, swim and social activities. Annual food and beverage sales are more than $2.1 million with total club revenues close to $7 million. The club’s departments are headed by professionals with ACF, PGA, GCSAA, USPTA and CMAA affiliation. There are 80-100 employees on the payroll at various times of the year. The club is available to its members year-round with the exception of Christmas day. The club is currently planning a $6 million dollar renovation project.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Oversees the operations of the accounting department, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. • Oversees training programs and identifies training needs, implements and supports the staffing, training and professional development of the department’s team members.
• Attend staff and committee meetings as assigned and requested. • Prepare all related information for monthly finance committee meeting and board meeting to include financials, various reports, and data analytics, as requested by the committee.
• Consistently ensure that the Club is operated in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws. Uphold the mission, policies and procedures of Highland Country Club including operational bylaws and employee handbook. Always act in the best interest of the club. • Coordinate development of annual operating and capital budgets for the entire club
. • Work with the membership department to properly onboard new members from an accounting/billing standpoint. • Prepare accurate and timely monthly and year-end annual financial statements.
1105 Highland Country Club Drive • PO Box 53409 • Fayetteville, NC 28305• 910.484.3136 • Directs and verifies the taking of inventories for beverages, food, supplies, equipment, furnishings, and other club assets. • Works with the club’s external accounting firm and its auditors as necessary.
• Ensure regular reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
• Perform monthly financial statement closing processes.
• Record loan payments and reconcile all loan balances monthly.
• Oversee the proper recording of all credit card transactions.
• Experience working with JONAS club management software a plus.
• Assist with managing upcoming $6 million dollar renovation project.
• The controller analyzes financial information, monitors budgeted versus actual expenditures and advises management about variances and their potential causes.
He or she recommends corrective actions to help ensure that budget goals are met.
• Maintains fixed asset ledgers and prepares depreciation schedules for monthly entries.
• Ensures all state and local taxes, such as sales tax, property taxes, etc. are paid in a timely manner and all applicable returns are filed timely and correctly.
• Oversees HR and payroll issues, insurance, worker’s comp, W-2’s, payroll taxes, payroll processing, etc.
• Performs any other reasonable tasks requested by the General Manager.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in accounting, finance, or business administration. Five to seven years of professional accounting experience with at least two of those years being at the controller level or equivalent. Knowledge of private clubs or high-end establishments in the hospitality industry preferred. Compensation Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications, education and experience.
