Holiday Lighting Technician (Seasonal)
Employer: Humbug Holiday Lighting of Suburban Essex Type: Seasonal/Part-Time (Sep–Jan) with potential for extended/returning work during peak periods Compensation: $20–$30/hr + performance bonuses
Be part of creating magical holiday displays for families and businesses. Work with a growing local franchise.
What you’ll do
Install and takedown professional holiday lighting/decor (rooflines, gutters, ridgelines, trees/shrubs, wreaths/garland) for residential and commercial clients.
Safely use step and extension ladders (up to 40 ft) and follow fall protection and OSHA safety standards.
Troubleshoot basics (bulbs, connections, timers, GFCI) and complete occasional service calls.
Work efficiently on a 2–3 person crew; take direction, communicate clearly, and hit daily targets.
Keep vehicles, tools, and inventory organized; assist with takedown and storage after the season.
Interact professionally with customers on-site; assist with marketing (door hangers, yard signs) to promote brand awareness
What makes you a great fit
Comfortable with heights, ladders, and outdoor work in various weather.
Detail-oriented, safety-first; ask questions when unsure and give/receive clear direction.
Reliable, punctual, self-motivated; able to accept occasional short-notice assignments.
Able to lift/carry 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Prior experience (lighting, roofing, landscaping, construction, electrical, or similar) is a plus—not required; we train. We are looking for people with a solid work ethic and team-mentality.
Schedule & season
Paid training in September–October; peak installs October–December; takedown late Dec–Jan/Feb.
Potential for weekday and weekend shifts; occasional early mornings/evenings to meet customer schedules.
Pay & bonuses
$20–$30/hr + performance bonuses (quality, pace, multi-install days, on-time/clean closeouts).
Growth
High performers may return each season in advanced roles (Crew Lead, Trainer) and may explore off-season opportunities with our sister services (mosquito/pest control).
