Job Summary:
The Medical Biller Clerk is responsible for preparing and submitting accurate medical claims to insurance companies, following up on outstanding balances, and ensuring timely reimbursement for services provided. This role requires knowledge of medical billing procedures, insurance guidelines, and coding systems (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS).
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and submit electronic and paper claims to insurance providers.
Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility.
Review medical records for proper documentation and coding.
Resolve billing errors, denials, and discrepancies with insurance companies.
Follow up on unpaid or underpaid claims and initiate appeals when necessary.
Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts accurately.
Communicate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients regarding billing inquiries.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Keep updated on billing regulations and payer policies.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
1–2 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in a clinical or home health setting.
Familiarity with billing software
Knowledge of insurance guidelines, CPT/ICD-10 coding, and medical terminology.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
