THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT - TAX PREPARER POSITION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING TASKS:
- Monthly bookkeeping & accounting work for various clients in a variety of industries
- Preparation of monthly financial statements (Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet)
- Preparation of gross receipts tax, wage withholding and compensating tax reports for NMTRD (or equivalents for out-of-state clientele.)
- Payroll processing
- Preparation of quarterly and year end payroll tax reports & 1099s
- Preparation of Personal Property Business Equipment Reports and other county, city or state specific tax forms that are required for the clients.
- Preparation of federal and state tax returns for both businesses and individuals
- Communication with clientele about their accounting, payroll and tax reports/returns
- Assist clients in analyzing financial statements to help further their company's growth
- Maintaining electronic and paper filing systems
- Assist the staff with other administrative or accounting tasks, as needed
SKILLS YOU WILL NEEDED:
- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy of data input
- Strong organizational skills
- 5+ years experience doing bookkeeping and accounting tasks including but not limited to: Bank reconciliations, general journal entries, loan reconciliations, Balance Sheet review and adjustments, Financial Statement preparation...etc
- 5+ years experience preparing payroll and the corresponding reports and payroll tax returns (both quarterly and year end)
- 5+ years experience working with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, macros, complex formulas...etc)
- 3+ years experience preparing federal and state business and personal tax returns (5+years is preferable)
- 1+ year experience preparing and filing gross receipts tax, wage withholding and compensating tax reports with NMTRD
- Public accounting experience is a plus, but not required.
- Active PTIN - All tax preparers (if not exempt, ie: EA or CPA) will be required to participate in the AFSP and complete 18hours of CE each year to maintain AFSP enrollment. (See IRS.gov for details on the continuing education requirements)
