    Halfaker has an opening for a SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER to join our talented, dynamic team. The key responsibilities for this include:

     

    • Provide LAN administration, including installing, configuring and testing systems, diagnosing and troubleshooting LAN hardware and software, controlling, documenting LAN configurations
    • Comply with the client, VA OI&T, VA and federal regulations, performing updates to the clients network equipment
    • Respond to network-related issues and requests for system service
    • Troubleshoot and coordinate resolution of network problems and issues
    • Perform configuration management for all network devices
    • Determine, recommend, develop and implement the most effective and efficient IT hardware, software and communication solutions for the clients IT network
    • Research, evaluate, recommend, develop and integrate, test, configure, monitor and install information technology solutions, including hardware, software, communications products and services on the clients LAN
    • Configure, test, document test results and provide recommendations to the VA-FSC configuration control board on integrating new web based applications into the enterprise environment
    • Identify security requirements and specifications; provide technical support of requests for data gathering, perform technical analyses, and document security requirements; conduct studies and prepare evaluations regarding the feasibility of using new technology
    • Implement and maintain network security countermeasures, boundary protection and Network Intrusion Detection
    • Configure Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) enabled web applications on the clients network
    • Provide preventative maintenance services and troubleshoot each Local Area Network (LAN) and Storage Area Network (SAN) physical and virtual component and any associated software or hardware to ensure all LAN components that comprise the clients IT Infrastructure are operational 99.999% of the time
    • Provide Network Diagrams including LAN/WAN, rack elevation, and connectivity
    • Support planning, documentation, test, and execution for all DRP/COOP-related activities, and create and maintain, as needed, Network COOP Documentation which includes hardware/software list and configurations and a system startup prioritization. This documentation shall be included in the COOP Plan described in Section 5.2.4
    • Create and update Network SOPs

    Required Skills

    • Previous VA network administration experience, especially in maintaining large distributed solutions and troubleshooting latency in legacy network solutions
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving programs
    • Experience with VA development processes
    • Knowledge of Veteran’s Information Portal (VIP practices and procedures
    • Excellent writing skills
    • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills
    • Highly motivated
    • Ability to take initiative
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Ability to learn quickly
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting

    Required Experience

    Bachelors’ degree or higher in Computer Science, or other related discipline

    • Bachelor’s and 8 years network administration experience will be considered in lieu of a Computer Science degree

    5 years of network administration experience

    VA IT programs experience preferred

    Must be able to successfully undergo a Veterans Affairs High Security Investigation (VA BI)
