Controller - New Orleans Hotel Consultants
New Orleans Hotel Consultants is locally owned with hotels in Natchitoches, La and Natchez, Ms.
We are seeking a Controller with previous hotel experience that can come in and hit the ground running.
The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial understanding of hotel accounting.
Job Description:
The Controller will serve as the accounting officer and strategic financial business leader for the Hotel Division through financial involvement that helps the hotels achieve desired flow without a lapse in quality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure profit and loss (P&L) and balance sheet accuracy.
Work with management team on annual budget to ensure expenses and income revenue projections are accurate.
Ensure all taxes are reported, paid and collected properly.
Monitor daily cash balances and forecast revenue and expenses on a monthly basis.
Facilitate monthly P&L critiques with management team regarding revenue production and spending.
Communicate any opportunities that may impact Net Operating Income.
Work with management team to ensure all Accounts Payable is properly coded.
Minimize corrections and adjustments through policy and procedural commitment.
Make sure hotel safes are correctly monitored and balanced.
Monitor aging daily to reduce or minimize any financial adjustments or collections.
Ensure guest complaints or chargebacks are handled correctly.
Ensure accounts payable vouchers are entered correctly
Ensure cash deposits are made and recorded accurately.
Responsible for credit card processing accuracies
Responsible for property and casualty and worker’s comp insurances
Work with Payroll department with allocations and tax payments
Submit month-end reports to the owners.
Work with front desk managers on areas of opportunity that arise with guest accounts.
Observe and suggest streamlines in processes to create financial gain.
Ensure hotel compliance with established accounting policies and procedures, legal requirements, and contractual obligations.
Required to cross-train and be familiar with all duties of Accounting.
Other duties from time to time as assigned by supervisor.
SKILLS
Previous supervisory and hospitality/tourism experience preferred.
Proficient in Windows programs and accounting software - Sage50
Detail oriented and organized required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Professional dress and demeanor
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
Two (2) years of controller experience preferably in the hotel industry.
