  • Responsibilities

    The Hotel Chief Engineer is the senior department head responsible for overseeing the physical property, mechanical/electrical systems, and life-safety equipment. They lead maintenance teams, manage preventative maintenance programs, and ensure the hotel operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory standards. Responsibilities: • Asset & Facility Management: Oversees the maintenance of the hotel’s physical structure, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, and pool/spa equipment. • Team Leadership: Hires, trains, schedules, and mentors the engineering team. Manages departmental performance and workflow. • Budget & Vendor Management: Controls departmental expenses, monitors utility consumption for cost-saving, negotiates vendor contracts, and assists in planning Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects. • Preventative Maintenance: Develops and implements ongoing preventative maintenance (PM) schedules to minimize equipment breakdowns and room downtime. • Safety & Compliance: Ensures all building systems comply with OSHA, ADA, EPA, and NFPA fire and life-safety codes. Acts as the incident commander for property emergencies (e.g., fires, floods). • Guest Satisfaction: Addresses escalated guest maintenance requests and collaborates with the General Manager and Housekeeping to maintain overall hotel curb appeal and room quality. Qualifications: • Experience: Typically 5 to 10+ years in hotel or commercial building engineering, with at least 2–3 years in a management or supervisory role. • Technical Knowledge: Expert-level proficiency in multiple building trades, including HVAC-R, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and building automation systems. • Education: A high school diploma or GED is the baseline. Trade/vocational certifications (e.g., HVAC certification, Certified Hotel Engineer) and blueprint-reading skills are highly preferred. • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, financial acumen, crisis management, and the ability to communicate clearly across all departments.
