    Job Title: Human Resources (HR) Manager

    Reports To: Executive Leadership Team (Co-CEOs and General Managers) Location: Primarily based in Shipshewana, Indiana, with regular involvement in Nappanee, Indiana and Nottawa, Michigan Status: Full-time / Hourly

    Position Overview

    The HR Manager will lead and coordinate all human resources functions across Alpha Building Center’s locations. This role supports hiring, onboarding, employee development, compliance, and company culture initiatives. The HR Manager will serve as a central connection between leadership, accounting, and each location’s management team to ensure consistency and fairness in how Alpha’s people, policies, and culture are managed.

    This position is both strategic and hands-on — the right candidate will build systems and structure while staying engaged with employees at every level of the company.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Recruitment & Onboarding

    Manage the full hiring process in coordination with department managers.

    Maintain up-to-date job descriptions and coordinate posting of open positions.

    Schedule and assist with interviews to ensure consistency and culture fit.

    Oversee onboarding and new hire orientation for all locations.

    Track applicant data and hiring metrics.

    1. Employee Relations & Communication

    Serve as a trusted contact for employee concerns, ensuring issues are addressed respectfully and confidentially.

    Provide guidance to managers on handling employee performance and conduct.

    Promote open communication between management, production, and sales teams.

    Support positive employee relations through consistency and fairness.

    1. Policy, Compliance & Administration

    Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with state and federal labor laws.

    Keep the Employee Handbook current and clearly communicated.

    Manage payroll responsibilities, attendance, and benefits administration.

    Track and manage employee status changes (new hires, promotions, terminations, etc.).

    1. Training, Development & Performance

    Help department leads identify training needs and coordinate development opportunities.

    Assist in the design of performance reviews and feedback processes.

    Support leadership in developing clear expectations and growth paths for employees.

    1. Culture & Engagement

    Support a culture that reflects Alpha’s values of service, honesty, and teamwork.

    Plan and assist with employee appreciation events, meetings, and recognition programs.

    Conduct exit interviews and report on retention trends with actionable insights.

    Champion consistent communication across all branches.

    Qualifications

    3+ years of HR experience (multi-location or manufacturing/retail experience preferred).

    Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices.

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of employees.

    Ability to manage multiple priorities with discretion and organization.

    Experience with HRIS or payroll systems (e.g. ADP, Workforce, or similar).
