Sagareus Property Management is seeking a highly autonomous, part-time HR Manager (1099) to build and oversee our entire HR operation. This is a flexible, project-driven role ideal for someone who can work independently, is deeply familiar with HR compliance and strategy, and wants to help shape a growing team—without needing day-to-day oversight.
We're currently preparing to scale from 15 to 59+ employees over the next 18 months, and we need someone who’s built the runway for that kind of growth before.
About the Role
This is a contractor (1099) position, not a W-2 employee role. You’ll operate as a strategic partner to leadership, building scalable systems to support recruiting, onboarding, compliance, benefits oversight, employee development, and performance strategy. This is a ground-floor opportunity to own the HR function with full autonomy.
What You'll Do
You’ll serve as our go-to HR expert, responsible for designing and managing core HR functions, ensuring compliance, supporting employee success, and contributing to leadership strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
Develop and implement HR systems, policies, and procedures from scratch
Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws
Oversee recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes
Manage employee benefits packages, including renewals and employee support
Own and process payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Advise leadership on compensation structures, performance management, and org design
Support employee relations, coaching, and conflict resolution as needed
Develop career paths and training curriculums to support employee development
Define, track, and present HR KPIs to leadership on a quarterly basis
Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality
Foster a positive, inclusive, high-accountability work culture
What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who is not only experienced but resourceful, proactive, and comfortable working independently. You should be able to build effective HR systems while balancing strategic priorities and day-to-day operations.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years experience in HR, ideally as an HR Manager or Generalist
Strong understanding of employment law and HR best practices
Experience managing benefits programs (health, dental, PTO, 401k)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to self-manage workload
Comfortable working in a remote or hybrid environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience growing a team from 15 to 50+ employees
Experience with ADP Payroll/ HR software platform
HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP)
Experience supporting a small business or startup environment
Knowledge of Washington State labor laws and HR compliance
Compensation & Structure
Pay Rate: $40–$50/hour DOE
Contract Type: 1099 Independent Contractor (to start)
Schedule: 10–15 hours/week to start, flexible schedule
Work Environment: Hybrid – mostly remote, occasional in-person meetings
