As a no-kill facility with the only Humane Law Enforcement department in the county, we're looking for a Humane Law Chief Investigator who is passionate about our mission, dedicated to helping both humans and their animals, and committed to the integrity of law enforcement policy and procedure.
Requirements: -Bachelor's degree preferred; Associates degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience required -High school graduate -Minimum 3 years serving in a managerial capacity -Minimum 2 years combined experience in animal cruelty investigations, animal control or law enforcement; knowledgeable in laws of arrest, search and seizure, probable cause and evidence gathering, scene response and crime investigation experience, police report writing and courts and legal systems -NYS Police Officer or Peace Officer Certification -Knowledge of basic animal care and handling strongly preferred -Basic computer skills, ability to learn internal software. -Position requires annual qualification and use of firearm, taser, OC spray, baton, radio and animal capture equipment.
Responsibilities: -Respond to situations involving animals in crisis due to abuse, neglect or disaster -Provide subject matter expertise related to the investigation of animal abuse cases from initial investigation to prosecution, to include court testimony as needed. -Coordinate and maintain the Humane Law Enforcement department's work, supervising the Humane Law Enforcement Investigator and Dog Control Officer -Maintain official records and documents, utilizing shelter software, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations, notably regarding privacy/confidentiality and security -Ensure all reporting requirements are met, including timeliness, completeness and accuracy in reporting -Build and maintain positive relationships with animal welfare, law enforcement and other related personnel and agencies within the county and state -Represent the UCSPCA professionally at meetings, conferences, donor functions and media interviews as needed -Be prepared to provide on-call support to respond to animal emergencies as needed.
