Are you looking for a position with purpose?

    Are you a people person?

Do you care about the well-being of cats, dogs, and other small companion animals?

    Then look no further...

Humane Society Naples (HSN), Southwest Florida's state-of-the-art no-kill shelter, is seeking candidates for the position of Animal Care Team Member. We seek a positive, service-oriented individual who will provide care for shelter companion animals as if they were their own, and engage with members of the public seeking to adopt a pet in need of a forever home. In return, you will be rewarded with a fulfilling and meaningful career helping companion animals find their forever homes, an energetic and fun work environment, a supportive team, and excellent benefits. Candidates must be willing to care for and handle both dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments.

    Responsibilities:

We're not going to lie -- this job is hard work, but so incredibly rewarding! When you hear contented purrs, see wagging tails, and watch folks walk out the door with their new best friend, you go home knowing you've changed lives. As a member of our animal care team, you can expect to work collaboratively with a team of employees & volunteers to:

Clean kennels and other enclosures to provide clean, comfortable quarters for our furry friends

Make sure every cat, dog, guinea pig, and rabbit gets enough to food and water

Keep our furry friends comfy with blankets and beds (this means there's some laundry to do!)

Keep a close eye on the animals for signs of illness or injury.

Take special care of sick or injured cats and dogs, or those with behavior challenges, until they are ready for adoption

Snuggle cats, walk dogs, pat the bunny, and make sure everyone has the toys and treats they need to keep them entertained

Make visitors to the shelter feel welcome and appreciated

Play matchmaker between potential adopters and the cats, dogs, and other critters who need a home

    Who are we looking for?

We are willing to train the right person how to do the job, but we'd like you to bring these qualities and skills to the table:

Willingness to work with both dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments

Plays well with others and loves to help people

    Detail-oriented, positive, patient, compassionate

Able to go with the flow and be flexible when plans change suddenly

    Safety-conscious

Able to lift up to 40 lbs independently

Comfortable with computer use, and willing & able to learn new software

English fluency is required; The ability to speak Spanish or Haitian Creole in addition to English is a plus!

We want you to have a high school diploma or GED. Additional education is great, especially if it's in biology or animal behavior or the veterinary field, but it's OK if college wasn't for you.

If you have at least one year of experience working in a shelter, vet clinic, boarding facility, sanctuary, or zoo, that does stand out to us, but it's not absolutely required.

    Schedule:

Individuals hired for a full-time position will work five 8-hour shifts, 8 am - 5 pm with an hour for lunch. Candidates must be available weekends and holidays.

    Pay and Benefits:

    Pay starts at $17/hr.

    Paid time off

    Discounts on veterinary services

A generous benefits package that includes

Medical, dental, and vision insurance at little cost to you. (Full disclosure: While dependent coverage is available, HSN does not contribute to the cost for adding family members to your plans.)

$25,000 life insurance policy at no cost to you

Optional enrollment in affordable supplemental insurance plans (disability, accident, etc.)

Optional enrollment in 403(b) retirement plan; matching contributions after one year of service

One last thing before you apply:

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. HSN values diversity and wants to increase the diversity of our team. We are an equal opportunity employer.
