If so, Humane Society Naples (HSN) invites you to apply for the position of Intake Supervisor. The Intake Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of paid staff and volunteers in the provision of the highest standards of care for newly arrived cats, dogs, and other small animals before they are available for adoption, including sick animals. Additionally, the Intake Supervisor responds to requests to surrender or return companion animals to HSN. This position requires the ability to lead and manage team and work in a collaborative manner with other animal care supervisors, the veterinary department, the behavior department, and the public.
What does the job entail?
This position is as much responsible for the management of a team as it is the intake and care of newly arrived companion animals to the shelter:
Supervise and directly assist in daily husbandry, care, and enrichment of newly arrived dogs, cats, and other animals waiting transfer to adoption floor
Supervise a team of paid staff and volunteers, including directing work and providing feedback and correction
Ensure the highest standard of care to dogs, cats, and other animals in the intake area of the main shelter
Working with Shelter Manager and veterinary and/or behavior teams, create and update SOPs
Train animal care personnel on proper procedures related to the care of animals in intake
Monitor the health, weight, condition, and behavior of animals in intake
Respond to requests from the public to surrender or return companion animals
Provide education/resources to owners considering surrender to promote the animal remaining in the home
Schedule surrender/return appointments as space is available
Process surrenders/returns in a courteous and compassionate manner
Assist in coordination, transport, and processing of large intakes of dogs, cats, or other small mammals
Provide accurate information and friendly professional service to the public and to coworkers in a responsive, positive, courteous, and tactful manner
Develop a strong, positive, and respectful working relationship with staff, volunteers, and feline residents
Who are we looking for? HSN is seeking an individual who with strong leadership and personnel management skills who also happens to understand the care and processing of newly arrived companion animals to the shelter
Strong coaching, training, and supervisory skills
Extensive knowledge of companion animal health, behavior, and husbandry/care/enrichment best practices
Patience and tact with sensitive and passionate personnel involved in the care of companion animals
Computer skills, including databases/data entry, Microsoft Office
Excellent customer service skills
Use and understand common companion animal care and veterinary terminology
Ability to work within a team in a fast-paced environment
Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times
Compassion and concern for companion animals and for humans who choose to give their animals to HSN
Fluency in English is required; fluency in Spanish preferred but not required
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
Minimum 3 years of experience caring for companion animals in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or other professional animal care setting
Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience; 2+ years' supervisory experience preferred
