Job Summary: Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Electrical Superintendent's primary role is to oversee and coordinate the activities of plant electricians and electrical support staff. They are responsible for assigning and planning work, ensuring the safe and timely execution of tasks, troubleshooting problems, and providing continuous training and support to the electrical team. This role also emphasizes a commitment to safety, quality improvement, and ongoing skills development. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading other electrical and/or control systems professionals.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assign Work
* Review Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance tasks and assign them to electrical staff based on their ability, experience, and training needs.
* Coordinate work with the production departments to minimize downtime.
* Adjust work schedules to address emergency breakdowns.
- Work Planning
* Plan out daily and future work flows and assignments.
* Ensure that necessary equipment, materials, and personnel are available for each job.
* Participate in on-site overnight and weekend repairs as needed, to ensure completion and safety.
- Problem Solving
* Investigate and troubleshoot issues to identify and eliminate recurring problems.
* Investigate, plan and execute
* Respond to call-in requests when plant issues require immediate attention.
- Safety
* Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with plant safety requirements.
* Verify that all tools used by electrical staff are in safe working condition.
* Ensure that electrical safety protocols are consistently followed.
- Work Ethics
* Maintain a cooperative and supportive attitude towards all departments.
* Develop and promote a professional culture of continuous improvements in equipment readiness and repair.
* Attend and participate in plant management meetings, giving input to overall operations and other plant business.
- Training
* Investigate, plan and execute continuous training and growth opportunities to individuals under their supervision.
* Become familiar with all equipment and operations within the plant and develop training modules for each machine area.
* Stay updated on electrical and control system technologies; and provide training to team members in various formats.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting techniques.
- Knowledge of Rockwell Contrologix Software (and other relevant control systems).
- Ability to operate and understand functions of equipment.
- Five (5) or more years' experience with management of electrical or control systems professionals.
- Participate in an “on call” rotation with other managers.
- High school education as a minimum, with verifiable education and/or certifications demonstrating a strong knowledge of electrical/control systems to support the requirements of this job description.
Physical and Safety Requirements: (This is a safety sensitive position)
- Ability to work in an industrial environment that includes heat, cold and noise.
- Safely operate assigned tools and equipment.
- Safely operate heavy equipment.
- Ability to work at heights exceeding 60 ft from the ground.
- Safely maneuver around moving machinery, uneven ground, steps, ladders and stairs.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Adherence to consistent hydration schedule.
- Ability to lift, push, pull and have exposure to various weights and sizes of veneer, plywood, lumber, bark and sawdust.
- Ability to lift over shoulder/head height.
- Ability to stoop, walk, stand, push, pull, bend, kneel, climb as to demonstrate a range of motion needed to complete assigned work during 12-hour shifts.
- Must be able to hear, read and see directions; instructions and/or signals.
- Clearly communicate safety issues and concerns as they appear.
