Hussey Copper is located in Leetsdale, PA. We are looking for additional people to become part of our team. We currently have openings for Assistant Operator Slitter position.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

•  Follow established practice, operator’s or foreman’s instructions in performance of routine duties to assist in setup and operation of slitting machine and related equipment to slit copper and copper alloy stock to specified width.
• To assist the Operator involves duties such as stripping or reassembling and adjusting equipment during setup; loading or unloading stock with pendant crane; helping to set up slitter box and position assembled unit in machine; electrically actuate coil holding arms to grip and hold coil during slitting operation; helping tape lead end of input coil to tail end of preceding coil; threading coil through machine as necessary; taping lead end of each coil strip to fibre in steel cores on mandrel; helping to strip coils off the mandrel; removing steel core sleeve and roll to storage area; helping guide coil through rolls and knives to recoiler or upcoiler.  Observe recoil or upcoil operation, being alert to detect faulty operations or defective material; dispose of scrap; secure coils and perform other duties in setup and operations as directed.
•  Assist in setting up and operating edge roll machine to remove burrs, roll form edge and finish roll copper or copper alloy coil, strip or bar stock to customer specification, in accordance with established practice or Foreman’s instructions.
•  Setup is simple in nature, and involves positioning designated stock on reel, in pay-out box or on adjacent trestles.  Adjust guide rolls for gauge and width of stock; position designated edge forming rolls on machine table, and adjust for stock width with adjusting screws; set finish roll for specified gauge; align recoiler or place trestles for completed stock.  Activate rolls, hand feed stock through guide rolls into edge forming and finish rolls to recoiler or trestles.  Check stock gauge and edge visually, and with micrometer to verify conformance to specification or need for additional passes and roll adjustment.  Remove finished stock onto pallets and pack to specifications.
• Perform a range of general packing and packaging duties to prepare for shipment of a variety of copper coils.
• Count, arrange, and pack material in boxes, containers on skids, pallets and other methods as instructed.  Ship containers by methods, and procedures as prescribed.  Move and arrange material using hoists, pendant cranes, and manual lifting and moving.  Apply protective wrapping, interleaving, wood, or paper separators.  Check material against orders for correct identification, inclusion of all items, count, and other required data.
• Attach packing lists, tags, or labels as required.
• With or without Maintenance Department assistance, lubricate the equipment as needed and perform minor maintenance work as necessary in and around the SL-1 work area.
• As needed on occasion, load or unload material using a crane or forklift.
• Detect and report questionable material, faulty operation, or needed maintenance to Operator or Foreman.  Give proper coil to equipment used.  Complete required time and production records.  Observe good housekeeping practices and prescribed safety precautions.
