R&D Engineering Co-op

Hyalex Orthopaedics is an award winning, venture funded medical device start-up developing transformational synthetic cartilage technology and implant systems for diseased and damaged joints. We are seeking a co-op candidate to work directly with the R&D, product development, and manufacturing teams supporting the development of innovative synthetic cartilage implants.  This position will work on-site in our Lexington facility.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct tests and analyze results to study the mechanical, physical, and chemical properties of Hyalex's novel materials and devices
• Assist optimization of test methods, manufacturing processes, and fixturing
• Assist in maintenance and completion of engineering documentation
• Plan and document studies, and present data reviews
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Fourth or fifth year undergraduate student or graduate student studying mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, polymer chemistry, materials science or a related discipline
• As appropriate for the specific project:
  • Experience in static and fatigue mechanical testing and Solidworks
  • Experience with wetlab chemistry in an industrial setting
  • Experience in process/manufacturing activities in an industrial setting
• Experience in polymeric materials and medical devices is a plus
• Experience with cleanrooms and/or aseptic technique is a plus
• Hands-on problem solving skills with a strong attention to detail
• Excellent communication and writing skills
• Resourcefulness, diligence, and creativity
• Previous experience in a regulated environment
