    Hyalex Orthopaedics, Inc. (located in Lexington, MA) is an early-stage medical device company backed by industry leading venture firms and corporate partners. HYALEX® is developing innovative synthetic cartilage implants exhibiting extraordinarily low friction and wear based on breakthrough polymeric technology. This is a rare opportunity to make an immediate impact and learn about the medical device development process up close. The company is looking for a creative, driven individual with good hands-on problem-solving skills who takes pride in his/her work.

    HYALEX® is looking for a student intern or coop starting May 2020. The student intern/coop will join Hyalex's R&D team with a wide range of R&D responsibilities that include conducting tests and analyzing results to characterize the mechanical, physical, and chemical characteristics of Hyalex's novel materials and devices. The student will work closely with R&D/Manufacturing scientists/engineers to test candidate materials/devices and validate their performance, and design/perform experiments for process optimization. Responsibilities may also include development and validation of novel test methods and writing protocols/reports.

    Requirements:

    Skills of particular interest:

    • A rising senior or graduate student studying chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or biomedical engineering
    • Experience processing polymeric materials
    • Experience in mechanical and/or chemical analysis of polymeric materials
    • Good spoken and written communication skills
    • Resourcefulness, diligence, and creativity
    • Previous experience in a regulated environment
