    SUMMARY: The Research Associate I in the Research and Development department is responsible for providing a wide range of support and collaboration for the team that advances all scientific aspects of processing homeopathic ingredients and dosage forms throughout SHC/Hyland's. This position reports through a matrix environment with overall guidance from the VP of the R&D Group, along with supervision and mentoring from the scientific team in R&D. The Research Associate I is responsible for administrative support and general organization of documents, materials and supplies for the effective research, planning, and execution of all aspects of development projects under the guidance of senior members on the team. He/She is responsible to initiate scientific documents for research, including study reports, protocols, and other related documents and to ensure that all necessary information is organized and summarized effectively. The Research Associate I is also responsible for hands-on support of development work, such as running equipment tests and performing analytical methods, as needed and under supervision of senior team members. The team interfaces internally with Quality, Operations; and the team collaborates externally with consultants, academia, laboratories, contract manufacturers, and pharmaceutical equipment manufacturers. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ● Act as the hub for maintaining information, documentation and systems in a manner that protects the company's intellectual property. Initiate scientific documents for research, including study reports, protocols, and other related documents. ●Document project issues, agreements and decisions in team minutes in a timely manner.  ● Maintain electronic records of development queries and activities in a well-organized and retrievable manner. ● Gather, organize and analyze technical information for research study design and for publications and submissions as needed. ● Support and collaborate with scientists, labs, vendors and industry experts to ensure completion of tasks/projects. ● Perform basic chemical analysis as needed using analytical equipment (e.g. HPLC, UV-Vis, pH, etc.) ● As needed, assist in the development and technical transfer activities carried out at internal and contract manufacturing facilities, interfacing with the Manufacturing, R&D and Quality groups where appropriate. ● May be required to perform other duties as assigned or as needed. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

    QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: ● Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology or related science with one plus (1+) year experience in a regulated industry (i.e. pharmaceutical, dietary supplement, biotech, etc); or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience ● Expertise in performing basic analytical testing, e. g. HPLC and UV Spectroscopy. ● 1+ years of experience with development and/or production of OTC oral liquids, tablets and powders as well as topical liquids, creams and gels, preferably with experience in homeopathic manufacturing processes. ● 1+ years of laboratory experience in a GMP setting is preferred. ● Basic understanding and working knowledge of FDA and cGMP regulations. ● Knowledge in testing natural products and botanical experience is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: ● Ability to work collaboratively across organizations and disciplines, portraying credibility, confidence and approachability. ● Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to produce outstanding results and thrive in a self-driven work environment. ● Ability in writing scientific protocols and reports and experience in running physical, chemical and biological test methods. ● Ability to analyze, report and communicate data from the experiments to co-workers and management. ● Strong verbal and written communication skills. ● Able to read and follow SOPs, adhere to the business and safety policies and procedures. ● Research study experience or experience in running physical, chemical and biological test methods. ● Strong interpersonal skills to positively and professionally interact with colleagues and work in a team-oriented environment. ● Ability to travel between facilities and vendors/labs as needed (estimate less than 10%).
