    Job Summary / Overview

    The E&I (Electrical & Instrumentation) Process Controls Engineer supports the design, implementation, and execution of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems for EPC projects. This role serves as a technical liaison between engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure control systems are designed, installed, and operated in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements.

    The E&I Process Controls Engineer is responsible for supporting control system design, field troubleshooting, instrumentation integration, and commissioning activities, ensuring reliable and efficient plant operations.

    Process Controls & Systems Engineering

    · Support the design, configuration, and implementation of process control systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA).

    · Review control philosophies, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and cause & effect matrices.

    · Assist with development and validation of control logic, interlocks, and alarm management strategies.

    · Coordinate with process engineering to ensure control systems align with process design intent.

    Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering

    · Review and support design of instrumentation systems including transmitters, analyzers, control valves, and field devices.

    · Assist with electrical system integration including MCCs, switchgear, and power distribution related to controls.

    · Verify instrument specifications, datasheets, and installation requirements.

    · Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, ISA, IEC).

    Field Engineering & Troubleshooting

    · Provide field support during installation, loop checks, and system startup.

    · Troubleshoot instrumentation, control systems, and electrical interfaces.

    · Support resolution of technical issues encountered during construction and commissioning.

    · Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors on system integration and issue resolution.

    Commissioning & Startup Support

    · Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities.

    · Support development and execution of commissioning procedures and test plans.

    · Perform loop checks, functional testing, and system validation.

    · Assist with system handover, punch list resolution, and turnover documentation.

    Documentation & Technical Reviews

    · Review and manage RFIs related to E&I and controls scope.

    · Support development and review of control narratives and operating procedures.

    · Maintain accurate records of design changes, system configurations, and as-built documentation.

    · Assist in preparation of turnover packages and system documentation.

    Quality & Compliance

    · Ensure all E&I installations meet project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

    · Support QA/QC inspections and verification of instrumentation and control systems.

    · Promote adherence to safety protocols and industry best practices.

    Coordination with Project Teams

    · Collaborate with engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations teams.

    · Interface with vendors, OEMs, and system integrators.

    · Participate in project meetings and provide technical input related to controls and instrumentation.

    Scheduling & Reporting

    · Support tracking of E&I and controls-related project milestones.

    · Coordinate with Project Controls for schedule integration and updates.

    · Identify risks related to controls systems and escalate as needed.

    Qualifications

    Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations

    · Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.

    · ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) or similar certification is a plus.

    Education, Experience, and/or Training

    · Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or related field.

    · Minimum 5–10 years of experience in process controls, instrumentation, or E&I engineering.

    · Experience in EPC projects within energy, chemical, or industrial sectors preferred.

    · Hands-on experience with DCS/PLC systems (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell, Siemens, Rockwell) preferred.

    · Experience supporting commissioning and startup activities strongly preferred.
