    The Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for the cosmetic and functional repair of all vessels, as well as maintenance for office area.

     

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    SAFETY AND SECURITY

    • Participate in onboard training and routine drills.
    • Demonstrate practical knowledge of all phases of shipboard safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e. fire extinguishers, life preservers, work vest).
    • Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Handle and dispose of all chemicals and other types of hazardous or caustic materials in compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), as required.
    • Report safety-related concerns.

     

    OPERATIONS

    • Monitor and assist in maintaining the Preventative Maintenance Program.
    • Accepts tasks from the Maintenance Supervisor and plans/implements execution.
    • Paint, repair, clean, and generally improve facilities, vessels and equipment as required by the Maintenance Supervisor.
    • Weld as required.
    • Ensure all aspects of safety during task execution.
    • Utilize power tools to accomplish designated tasks.
    • Maintain supply, tool and parts inventories.
    • Use of approved Hazmat required for Paints, Solvents and Cleaning Agents.
    • Assist with filling potable water, bunkering fuel, connecting and disconnecting shore power as directed.
    • Perform cleaning and custodial tasks of the vessels and property, including maintenance and construction tasks as assigned and minor engineering repairs and rounds as direct.
    • Seek the highest levels of quality and professionalism.

    HUMAN RESOURCES (HR)

    • Understand the Employee Handbook and adhere to policies.
    • Comply with rules and regulations contained in the crew handbook and as directed by supervisor including, but not limited to: o Report to work on time and ready for duty. o Ensure that the proper uniform is worn and grooming standards are met. o Complete required administrative forms clearly and accurately.

     

    MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

    • Understand and comply with the Safety Management System (SMS).
    • Understand and comply with Ship Instructions (SIs).
    • Maintain Crew Qualification binder.

     

    REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

    • Collaborate with other HMS personnel to remain attentive to regulatory requirements and alert to regulatory changes.
    • Assist Master in ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
    • Assist Master in ensuring the vessel is in an inspection-ready condition at all times.

     

    CLIENT RELATIONS

    • Present professional level of customer service and appearance to all clients, both internal and external.

     

    ADMINISTRATION / FINANCIAL  

    • Requisition supplies, tools and other resources from Maintenance Supervisor, as needed.

     

    REPORTING

    • Report all deficiencies to the Maintenance Supervisor.

     

    OTHER DUTIES

    • Perform other duties, as assigned.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION:

    • HS Diploma or equivalent

    PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION(S) OR LICENSE:

    • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card), and/or ability to obtain or maintain
    • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification and/or ability to obtain and maintain
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status applies

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively interact with the passengers, guests and fellow employees.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
    • Great computer skills

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum one (1) year experience with general mechanics and electrical systems
    • Previous marine experience highly preferred
    • Proven track record of working successfully in a team environment

    OTHER:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including, but not limited to, pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing
    • Must wear safety equipment as mandated by the Company

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    The majority of work is performed in a marine environment in outdoor conditions with exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions, along with a moderate to loud noise level. The marine operation is subject to varied wake and motion.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to stand and walk on a nearly constant basis
    • Ability to bend, rotate and reach frequently
    • Ability to carry, push/pull and/or lift materials weighing upwards of 50 lbs
    • Ascending/descending stairs or ladders safetly
    • Ability to manipulate/handle/grip materials required to perform the job
    • Ability to maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel
    • Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associated with the job
    • Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel station bill
    • Vision must be correctible to 20/40 in both eyes with full-color vision and no night blindness.
