    SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    IAP is seeking a Lead Instructor based out of San Diego, CA or Norfolk, VA to lead a team of training professionals providing 3-M training to the U.S. Navy to raise awareness and the knowledge level critical to maintenance management or execution for support of material condition readiness of U.S. Navy surface ships. The Lead Instructor will also provide 3-M training to the more senior personnel within the U.S. Navy.         

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (not limited to duties as described – performs related duties as requested)

    The Sr. Training Specialist (Sr. Instructor) shall

    • Provide technical subject expertise knowledge on 3-M to Navy and Government personnel.
    • Assist with program reviews.
    • Participate in overall course development.
    • Ensure all training courses are consistent for all training sites being supported.
    • Assist the Program Manger with overall task performance, progress reporting, and direction of other instructors.
    • Provide training to more senior naval personnel and civilians on naval maintenance staffs.
    • Provide process improvement recommendations to TYCOM staff.
    • Provide training at the Senior Officer level (often 0-5 and 0-6 audience) and ship's wardrooms.
    • Provide training to Port Engineers and other shore management personnel such as Availability Work Package (AWP) managers as well as Type Desk Officers and Type Desk Assistants.
    • Effectively communicate and serve as an instructor and mentor to senior officers and senior civilian maintenance management.

         

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (OR EQUIVALENT)

    • Have had command of at least one U.S. Navy surface ship as an O-5/O-6 with one tour at a Major Command Afloat level.
    • Demonstrated two (2) years recent (within last three (3) years) experience with current Fleet maintenance policies, processes, programs, and initiatives, including the roles of Port Engineers, Availability Work Package Managers, Type Desk Officers, and Type Desk Assistants.
    • Demonstrated two (2) years of experience conducting technical briefs at the Senior Officer level (at least 05/06 level audience), ship's wardrooms, and ashore maintenance managers.
    • Demonstrated experience providing process improvement recommendations to senior level Naval staffs.
    • Strong communication skills; ability to communicate with senior naval and civilian personnel in a senior or executive naval environment.
    • Working knowledge of curriculum development standards.

     

    LICENSE & CERTIFICATIONS:

    • Master Training Specialist (Desired)

    KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

    • Broad experience in shipboard systems and material condition assessment.
    • Able to effectively communicate and serve as an instructor and mentor to senior officers.
