    Ipsos Public Affairs conducts objective, formative, strategic research in partnership with clients from government, public, corporate, and not-for-profit sectors.  We use data and rigorous analyses to understand and manage issues, pinpoint shifts in attitudes and opinion, evaluate policy, enhance communications, and advance reputations.  We provide clients with insight that goes beyond reporting on data and is based on a concrete understanding of issues and their context.

    RESEARCH SCIENTIST (HEALTH FOCUS)

     

    The Research Scientist will collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary colleagues across the US Public Affairs (USPA) practice to deliver high-quality research on health behaviors, healthcare access, healthcare service delivery, and public health.  The Research Scientist will have lead responsibility for study design, analysis, directing and/or coordinating the efforts of subject matter and methodological experts, and client communication.  The Research Scientist will also be responsible for introducing innovation into USPA, via one or more of the following:  thought leadership, methodological innovation, strategic insights, and fostering research opportunities or building relationships with partner organizations.

    The Research Scientist will be a core member of the USPA Data Analytics and Applied Sciences (DAAS) group.  DAAS is a team of Ph.D. social and behavioral scientists, statisticians, and data specialists located in Ipsos offices throughout the US.  DAAS researchers work collaboratively across disciplines and advisory service teams to develop customized, high quality data and analytic solutions and insights used throughout the USPA practice.  DAAS researchers are passionate about research, data, problem-solving, innovation, and client service.

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • STUDY DESIGN:  Translating client policy and operational questions into frameworks amenable to analysis via quantitative and mixed methods research.  Collaborating with team members throughout the practice to develop best data capture and analytic solutions consistent with research needs, timelines, and budget.
    • ANALYSIS AND REPORTING:  Applying or overseeing application of research techniques for addressing client research questions using data from survey and/or other sources (such as claims or administrative data), helping to develop solutions to common research or data challenges, working as a member of interdisciplinary project teams to interpret and cross-validate study findings and generate substantive insights for USPA clients, presenting study results in both oral and written communications (including reports and manuscripts).
    • LEADERSHIP:  Assuming lead responsibility for literature reviews, study designs, analysis, report and manuscript production; monitoring project deadlines, staffing requirements, and workflow while coordinating inputs from team members; fostering and possibly managing early career team members; providing hands-on support to team members as needed.
    • CLIENT RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:  Maintain strong relationships with existing clients, respond to ad hoc client requests, help engage potential clients and research partners, draft proposals, and prepare Ipsos for new business opportunities.
    • INNOVATION AND THOUGHT LEADERSHIP:  Presenting research at industry conferences, publishing research in peer-reviewed and/or Ipsos publication outlets, conducting, or contributing to internal trainings or seminars, and participating in internal strategic initiatives and special projects.

     

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS THE FOLLOWING SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES

    • Ph.D. in public health with 5+  years of primary research experience; candidates with degrees in other fields such as psychology, sociology, demography, economics, or public policy will also be considered provided they have substantial quantitative research experience in health.  We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in military and Veteran health.
    • Hands-on experience with traditional and opt-in surveys, as well as with health, demographic, or Census data in applied research settings.
    • Experience in quantitative and mixed-methods impact evaluation.
    • Advanced skill in SAS (skill in Python or R a plus).
    • Track record leading health, quantitative, policy and/or survey researchers.
    • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while maintaining a strong client service orientation.
    • Unflagging attention to detail and commitment to the accuracy and completeness of information, quality of results, and robustness of findings.
    • Highly motivated, self-directed, and comfortable working within tight and shifting deadlines.
    • Flexible and comprehensive thinker, with enthusiasm for learning and innovation.
    • Strong internal and external client presence; approachable hands-on leader with well-developed interpersonal skills.

     

    Position is currently posted to Washington DC but could be located in another Ipsos US office.
