    The Manager, Systems Engineering leads a high performance team of engineers responsible for designing, building, and operating core systems infrastructure. This is a hands-on role and requires a leader with deep technical knowledge.  This leader will have primary responsibility for the design and operation of the Microsoft/Unix servers and applications, storage, virtualization, networking, datacenter and cloud-based technologies required to support the custom software solutions.  This role works closely with audit and compliance groups to ensure the ongoing security of our platforms.

     

    The ideal candidate for this position will have prior experience as a technical systems architect, and have recent success migrating to and operating in a cloud environment. The candidate should have extensive experience defining technical strategy, and leading a team to execute that strategy.  The candidate should have a successful history of leading teams of 10 or more senior and principal systems engineers.  Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience working in a software development shop and be comfortable with continuous integration and continuous delivery processes.

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO):

    • Ensure the availability, scalability, performance, and security of all cloud and on-prem solutions
    • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and support in the deployment of complex infrastructure
    • Ensure compliance with security and architecture frameworks across all solutions
    • Create, implement, and validate Disaster Recovery strategies across all solutions
    • Lead documentation efforts for cloud and on-prem solutions
    • Delegate work to ensure effective execution of team/function deliverables
    • Create an environment that promotes learning; enabling resources to resolve and remove their own obstacles, while supporting individuals and teams to learn from failing fast.
    • Develop and maintain a high-performing team through effective hiring, vendor partner management, coaching and performance management
    • Develop processes, work streams and maintenance schedules
    • Identify and analyze gaps and opportunities for the deployment of IT assets, tools and solutions, to facilitate process improvements, service enhancements, and cost saving opportunities
    • Collaborate with technical teams, business partners, and vendors to ensure stable operations
    • Perform systems contract management, including the management of support and maintenance agreements, inventory life cycle and budget management
    • Overseeing the day to day operation of the team, including metric reporting and daily review of service performance and availability as required by SLAs
    • Ensure prompt incident resolution as a technical contributor and effective communicator
    • Participate in IT change management process

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • US CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED
    • THE ABILITY TO PASS A STATE OR FEDERAL BACKGROUND CHECK IS REQUIRED
    • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
    • 10+ years managing Windows and Linux operating systems
    • 5+ years managing an AWS based infrastructure
    • 3+ years managing infrastructure as code
    • Proven history of successful cloud migrations
    • Amazon Web Services certifications preferred
    • History operating under PCI/DSS, NIST, CJIS security frameworks
    • Proven proficiency writing and utilizing scripted solutions (Bash, Python, Powershell)
    • Experience facilitating monolithic to micro-service application migrations
    • Experience administering application stacks running Java/Tomcat, PHP, Node, Angular, Microsoft SQL, MySQL
    • Experience with network routing, firewalls, IPS/IDS, IPSEC and SSL VPNs, load balancing
    • Experience with automation software (e.g. Ansible, Git, Teamcity, Jenkins)
    • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and SCCM
    • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
    • You must have a 4-year degree from accredited university in relevant field of study. Master’s degree a plus
    • Experience with Incident and problem management

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENT, WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Minimal travel is required to acquire new skills and gain deeper knowledge of existing or new technologies. In addition to attending training and conferences, minimal travel may be required to facilitate team-building engagements with remote teams.
    • General office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
    • Office environment where the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Some walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment.

    • Tower Climber Certification
