The Documentation Specialist, Technical Writer will be required to develop content in accordance with Federal and Security standards, as well as follow existing requirements of our State and Retail contracts. This position is responsible for establishing standardized curricula, impactful job aides, SOPs, functional specifications and eLearning courseware to support the Public Security division. Responsible for creating high quality training materials and job aides to support new and existing programs. Specific focus will include working with Engineering, subject matter experts, business stakeholders, internal/external customers to identify and document associated training collateral.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO):
Responsible for creation, storage, cataloging and security of all training documents and materials
Collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to perform needs assessment to accurately identify project goals, develop associated training materials, and sustain positive working relationships with internal/external customers
Identify, develop, write, and evaluate technical training materials. Examples include: Training proposals, instructional outlines, user manuals, on-line learning activities, storyboards to support for video creation and post training evaluations
Solid understanding of blended learning techniques for purposes of designing and standardizing written training materials, development of eLearning courseware, job aides, webcasts and video content
Participate in and/or leads internal meetings and activities to ensure understanding of required documentation needs, changes and/or updates required
Maintain documentation integrity to ensure accuracy, quality, version control, and distribution processes. Catalog documentation so that user manuals are easy to identify, access, and update for Federal, State and Retail programs
Conduct webinars as needed to obtain approval of proposed training documentation and ensure stakeholders have solid understanding of training outline, workflow and key objectives
Perform projects and duties as assigned in support of department goals and objectives. Examples of these would include but not be limited to: participation in focus workgroups, attend implementation calls, collaboration with Engineering, Operations and PMO to ensure business need is met
Identify necessary changes in policy and workflow as the result of new program launches, business or procedural changes, updates to internal policies/procedures or changes in Federal/State/Retail requirements and/or contracts
Simultaneously manage documentation needs for the Federal, State and Retail Programs to ensure project timelines and business objectives are met
Required Skills
High level competency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Products
(Word, InDesign, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Proficiency with graphical design tools, such as Photoshop and Illustrator required
3-5 years Instructional Design experience required
Excellent verbal/written communication skills with ability to interact with all levels within the organization
Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
Strong time management and project management skills
Detail oriented with ability to self-audit and audit others to produce high quality documents
Required Experience
3-5 year's minimum Training Documentation, Technical Writing experience
Bachelor degree in training, human resources, English or other related field and/or equivalent related work experience
Proven project management, technical writing and content management experience
Experience developing blended learning solutions for a diversified training population
Instructional Design experience required
Professional training certificates from reputable certifying agency, a plus
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT, WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position to reside in Franklin, TN
Ability to travel locally for activities such as meetings, classes, and workshops.
Must be able to travel occasional by air as needed to attend training, conferences, and related activities
Overnight travel as required; should not exceed 10-25% of the time
Must have credit card to book travel and incur expense until reimbursed (usually 10 business days)
