    Job Description

    The Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) is a Seattle-based non-profit biotech organization taking a comprehensive approach to develop new solutions for infectious disease. We combine the high-quality science of a research or academic organization with the product development capabilities of a life science company, including an onsite GMP manufacturing facility. Our goal is to create vaccine platforms and technologies to combat the world’s most devastating infectious diseases.     The Financial Planning Analyst works very closely with the VP Finance and COO and helps support decisions around revenue, pricing, spending, operating budgets, and long-term planning. The Financial Planning Analyst is responsible for providing senior management with the analysis and information they need to make timely operational, financial, and strategic decisions. 

    The ideal candidate needs to be an excellent communicator, results driven, comfortable with ambiguity, and extremely curious, with the ability to work in a collaborative environment and solve problems creatively. 

    Responsibilities include: 

    • Build and maintain a quarterly forecasting model that details the entire organization’s operations and performs what-if analysis to support IDRI’s decision making. 

    • Monitor short-term cash flows through updating a weekly 26-week forecasting model. Report on developing trends, variances, risks and opportunities. 

    • Analyze monthly financial and non-financial data to assess and communicate performance against targets. Work with stakeholders to explain variances; identify trends; recommend actions. 

    • Prepare the organization’s rolling forecasts, long range financial plans, project costing and margin analysis, market analysis, statistical reporting, and other analyses as directed. 

    • Develop and maintain pricing models for IDRI’s various business lines. Calculate and provide the data and metrics required for monthly dashboards. 

    • Provide actionable information to VP Finance and COO by crafting and summarizing data, preparing reports, making presentations of findings, analysis, and recommendations. 

    • Assist in developing and tracking operating and other institute budget tools to ensure proper budget utilization; identify risks and help formulate strategies to mitigate or eliminate risk. 

    • Assist with indirect cost rate calculations, capital expense and maintenance agreement cost cost/benefit analysis, and shared resource cost allocations. 

    Qualified Candidates must have/be: 

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or a related field and 5 - 8 years of experience. Understanding of government grants/contracting and reporting a plus. 

    • Preference given to individuals with experience in nonprofit research, biotechnology startups or job cost manufacturing. 

    • Strong financial modeling experience. Experience in developing and thinking through assumptions and creating a product that is easily navigable and dynamic enough to sensitize quickly. The ideal candidate must possess advanced Excel skill sets. 

    • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including financial statement design. 

    • Detail oriented - Candidates are expected to have a propensity for investigating numbers, digging into the details when answers at the surface appear inadequate, and documenting their analysis. 

    • Analytical - Candidates should be problem solvers by nature and enjoy the challenge of finding answers to new and complex questions.
