    POSITION DESCRIPTION

At Ivy Gate, Editorial Assistants are responsible for editing undergraduate and graduate-school application essays in conjunction with IvyGate USA's Service Team members during application season. Editorial Assistants work remotely, reviewing application essays and providing substantive feedback on grammar, usage, word choice, topic, argument, organization, idea development, transitions, flow, and more, using Microsoft Word.

This is a seasonal position with limited hours. The ideal candidate must be able to commit to the following:

    1. Being available to work between September 2019 and April 2020
    2. Working within Ivy Gate's Standard Operating Procedures

Over a typical application season (early September to early April) you should expect to complete between 50 to 200+ hours of work (2 to 10 hours per week depending upon your desired contributions).

    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

    • A Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or a similar field (or status as a student in an undergraduate program granting such a degree). An MFA in Creative Writing is a plus, but not a requirement
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills -- assistants will be working as part of a team
    • Prior experience as an editor, writer, or English teacher/tutor is preferred but not required
    • Solid online-research skills for the purposes of basic fact-checking (e.g., ensuring that what a student says about a college or graduate school is, in fact, true)
    • The ideal candidate has a passion for the editorial process and is comfortable working with written work from students with a wide range of writing abilities and academic backgrounds
