    Job Description

    DESCRIPTION

    As a Product Engineer, you will join a dynamic and collaborative environment, new product development and release to manufacturing, overseeing the high-volume manufacturing through end-of-life of VCSEL laser diodes. You will use your knowledge of electronics, computer science and photonics to quickly find the optimum parameters for the device physics to meet the customer specifications. On a daily basis you will analyze production data using statistical analysis and modeling tools to evaluate parametric effects on the device performance. Your role is to interface with various engineering teams (epitaxy, process, quality, design, reliability, failure analysis, software and test), as well as customers and decision makers. Your goal is to on-time release the product to market with the utmost efficiency, by balancing yield, capacity, cost and performance. This position is an opportunity to participate to the challenging industry of consumer opto-electronics.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work with cross functional teams to establish product yield targets for product cost models and financial analysis.
    • Apply engineering and quality management principles/practices at various steps in the manufacturing process to achieve the successful introduction and manufacturing ramp of new products.
    • Identify manufacturing issues related to GaAs wafer fabrication, component assembly, test, and resolving them with support from a cross sectional team.
    • Yield reporting, including identifying and realizing measures for yield improvements as well as test optimization, and sustaining them with support from a cross functional team.
    • Summarize and evaluate statistical data (root cause, commonality, regression, and sensitivity analysis) using software tools such as SQL, JMP, EXCEL, Spotfire, Yield Watchdog, Dataviewer, business objects, Python.
    • Work with cross functional teams to identify manufacturing cost reduction opportunities and to establish cost reduction initiatives and goals throughout the manufacturing process.
    • Work with Reliability Engineering to define new product manufacturing qualification plans including electrical characterization and associated data analysis
    • Work with cross functional teams to evaluate and disposition non-standard material including initiating MRBs and SBRs.
    • Maintain production documents including Product Standards and Bill of Materials to reflect changes in suppliers, product design, and manufacturing processes.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    • BS degree and 8+ years/MS degree and 6+ years/PHD and 2+ years in electrical engineering, computer science, physics or+ related fields, with an emphasis on semiconductors or photonics.
    • Excellent analytical skills, judgment, and problem resolution abilities required.
    • Good communication skills and organization are essential.
    • Notions of Statistics, (T test, Anova)
    • Strong computer skills required (MS Office suite, JMP, SQL and a programming language .NET/python/matlab or similar)
    • Experience applying DOE, FMEA, and SPC methodologies is desirable.
    • Experience with project management and scheduling software (MS Project) a plus.
