    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    Reporting to the Director of Research, this position will be responsible for conducting all aspects of antibody purification process development and formulation development for novel antibody fragments for use in radioimmunotherapy of cancer.

    The Scientist has documented experience in downstream process development of biologics in a small biotech or large pharmaceutical company. In particular, hands-on knowledge of downstream purification optimization and method scale-up of antibodies, including (but not limited to) different forms of protein chromatography, centrifugation, filtration, virus clearance, and all other common techniques for biologics manufacturing is required. Extensive experience with the Akta purification system is expected.

    The candidate will also perform purifications of antibody fragments in support of preclinical discovery activities: from early-stage screening campaigns to in-vivo evaluation of lead candidates.

    This role is predominantly lab based and requires the ability to independently conduct all aspects of process development campaigns. This position will also be responsible for technology transfer to external cGMP manufacturing partners and serve as a point of contact with CMOs, troubleshooting and identifying potential improvements in processes and formulations. The Scientist will also contribute to the preparation of regulatory filings, IP, and process validation/qualification reports.

    Experience with cGMP environment is greatly valued but not required. Experience with transient mammalian transfections and cell culture is also preferred.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Perform purifications of antibody fragments in support of preclinical discovery activities: from early-stage screening campaigns to in-vivo evaluation of lead candidates.
    • Lead and execute all aspects of downstream process development and formulation optimization of antibody fragments in preparation for manufacturing.
    • Perform data analysis and interpretation, delivering internal reports, or external presentations, and preparing reports suitable for GLP/cGMP use and IND submissions.
    • Participates in group meetings. Presents experimental results, interprets data, and draw conclusions.
    • Writing technical reports and SOPs and execute process transfers to CMOs.
    • Rigorous documentation and data management approach is a must.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Ph.D. or M.Sc. degree in biochemistry or related discipline with 5+ years of experience in purification of biologics with special emphasis to downstream process development in small biotech or pharma company.
    • Hands-on experience with protein purification, especially as it pertains to antibodies and antibody fragments.
    • Extensive experience using Akta purification instruments, filtrations techniques, viral removal and all other common chromatographic strategies for biologics manufacturing.
    • Strong analytical skills with ability to resolve problems and undertake proper corrective steps.
    • Work independently with minimal supervision, but also flexible to accept external inputs and comfortable working in a small team.
    • Demonstrated superior communication and collaboration skills.
    • Strong organizational, planning and follow-through skills.
    • Proactive work ethic and attention to details.
    • Commitment to a rigorous data documentation and data recording.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Must be able to work in a lab setting with exposure to biohazards.
    • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
    • There are conditions, equipment and materials present which require proper handling to ensure safety.
