POSITION OVERVIEW:
THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION 3 DAYS A WEEK. The Associate Scientist – Mammalian Cell Culture will support the biology team with the cell-culture of cancer cells and other mammalian cell-lines. This includes thawing cell stocks, establish and banking cultures, expand cultures to desired volume to supply in-vivo biology group. Additionally, the person in this position will help with maintenance of the Tissue Culture facility: order of reagents such as culture media components and reagents, compressed gas tanks, sanitation of the facility, biosafety cabinets and incubators.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:_ _
- Establish, maintain and bank tumor cell-lines and other mammalian cells including primary cells and hybridomas
- Expand cell cultures up to several hundred millions cells to supply in-vivo efficacy studies
- General maintenance of the Tissue Culture facility
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Strong experience with aseptic techniques is a requirement
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:_ _
- B.Sc. degree or M.Sc. degree in biology, life science, biochemistry, biotechnology, or closely related field, preferably with prior experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical company
- Prior experience with mammalian cell culture is a must
- Familiarity with common mammalian cell culture techniques (thawing, splitting, banking and expanding tumor cell-lines)
- Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and commitment to adhere to laboratory safety procedures
- Commitment to rigorous data recording
- Strong hands-on laboratory skills
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and dependability
- Familiarity with biopharmaceutical and/or scientific terminology highly preferred
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal collaboration and communication skills, appropriately tailored for a variety of audiences (levels, functions, backgrounds)
- Demonstrated self-sufficiency, creative problem solving, and ability to execute in a fast-paced, results-oriented work environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion on company matters
