SUMMARY OF POSITION The Financial Controller is responsible for multiple aspects of accounting including Budgets, Financial Statements, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Inventory, Cost Accounting, Tax Compliance, Payroll and 401K plans, and Insurance. The financial controller is a capable, diligent business professional who manages the accounting operations of the organization, as well as the organization's cash and risk management. Additionally, this role manages the accounting staff, currently consisting of an A/R Clerk, an A/P Specialist, and a Cash Application Specialist. The position works directly under the President/CEO and is expected to be in the office overseeing the financial operations of the business on a daily basis. The financial controller must deliver precise information under strict deadlines and have the ability to complete work skillfully with little to no direct supervision once goals and objectives are set. WHY JOIN US? * Competitive Salary * Medical, Dental, and Vision Benefits * 401K Plan * Paid Time Off * Paid Holidays * Discretionary Bonuses * Annual merit-based / cost of living increase RESPONSIBILITIES • Oversees the accounting operations of the company and its affiliates • Creates an organizational structure within the accounting department to facilitate the achievement of the department's short-term goals and long-term objectives • Maximizes return on financial assets by assisting management in enforcing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems • Prepares and checks, monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements • Continually monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting internal audits and providing information to external auditors • Collaborates with external accountants and financial preparers at the year-end and with auditors, as needed • Supervises transaction-processing operations • Oversees all accounting functions for errors • Maintains an organized and orderly filing system of all accounting documents • Maintains a comprehensive system of accounting records • Produces the annual budget and predicts budget forecasts • Maintains an adequate system of budgets and controls created to mitigate risk • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions • Generates financial reports on schedule • Ensures the accuracy of the organization's financial results and reports • Ensures that financial reports comply with current accounting principles and financial reporting standards • Publishes complete and timely financial statements to President/CEO • Recommends benchmarks for the measurement of company financial performance goals • Analyzes capital investments, contract negotiations, and pricing decisions • Provides expertise in oversight of Cash, A/R, A/P, and inventory, including projections based on history • Takes initiative to prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information to maximize profits • Performs all end-of-period general ledger manual transactions related to multiple corporate entities • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential • Complies with all local, state, and federal tax filings and reporting requirements • Files quarterly and annual reports with proper tax offices and agencies • Schedules payments for accounts payable promptly • Schedules timely payments for debt repayment • Manages and complies with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings • Schedules timely payments for all tax and estimated tax payments due to various tax agencies • Finds and implements reasonable discounts for accounts payable as appropriate • Ensures prompt collection of accounts receivable • Oversees the review of bank reconciliations • Oversees the AP Specialist to ensure that vendors are being made timely and without penalties, interest, or late fees • Reports budget variances, significant inventory discrepancies, as well as late payments, fines, fees, and penalties to the President/CEO • Maintains a system of controls over all transactions • Manages and mentors all personnel in the accounting department • Oversees the mid-year and end-of-year physical inventory counts along with the Purchasing Manager • Oversees the company's 401k plan and insurance benefit renewals REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration • A minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required • Thorough knowledge of cost accounting • Superb mathematical skills • Superior verbal and written communication skills • Sufficient interpersonal skills • High attention to detail • High Proficiency in MS Excel including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and Data Tables • Experience with Distribution One ERP and Accounting System, or similar ERP/Accounting Systems for small businesses • Experience with end-of-period manual journal entries and multiple corporate en
