    Petit's HALO is a DBHDS Licensed provider of Adult Developmental Disabilities Services, providing personalized care for individuals with behavioral and developmental disabilities in Stafford, Virginia and surrounding areas. We offer the support necessary to help individuals follow their passions and interests through our in-home and group home services. As part of the Petit’s HALO team, your work as a Direct Support Professional is an integral part of our mission to provide safe and supportive assistance while helping the individuals we care for live as independently as possible. We are looking for Direct Service Professionals for our in-home home programs.

    Our current rate is $17-$22 p/hour depending on the candidates level of experience.

    Both Part Time and Full Time positions available.

    Please note that we are currently operating women-only facilities and as such only female applicants will be considered at this time.

    Job Summary

    The DSP position involves working in a residential home caring for an individual receiving services from Petit’s HALO. Direct Support Professionals are required to perform all duties in accordance with the State of Virginia regulations.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Direct Support Professional is responsible for the overall care of individuals in accordance with their Individual Plans and Behavior Plans (BP). This includes:

    ● Administration of medications as assigned using our medication administration software, completing all Medication Administration Records (MAR). Observe individuals for any changes in behavior or health that may have resulted from medication administration.

    ● Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living such as personal hygiene, toileting, and grooming

    ● Prepare nutritional meals based on individual needs and preferences, making sure residents are well fed through feeding assistance and observation during mealtimes

    ● Maintain clean and organized environments

    ● Help individuals engage in daily movement as befitting of their capabilities.

    ● Encourage individuals to develop care skills independently where appropriate, offering assistance when needed.

    ● Implementation of goals outlined in individual and behavioral plans.

    ● Provide transportation to and from approved activities. Promote participation and involvement in community outings.

    ● Ensure appropriate care for the emotional and physical wellbeing of all residents.

    ● Maintain proper documentation in accordance with state requirements and Petit’s HALO protocols.

    ● Report any noted problems or medical related incidents to upper management immediately and complete written incident reports within 24 hours.

    ● Represent Petit’s HALO in a professional manner to families, support coordinators, state officials, and community partners when required.

    ● Manage residential inventory such as food stuffs, toiletries, etc. and report any necessary purchases to upper management.

    ● Assist upper management in the preparation for the annual Individual Planning Meeting.

    ● Conduct all necessary duties to ensure effective shift changes, including completing communication logbooks during shifts and giving relief staff full briefings. DO NOT leave the premises until a proper shift change has been completed.

    Petit’s HALO embraces the unique needs and personalities of each of our residents, meaning duties may vary from person to person. Additional requirements may present themselves based on what our residents need. Petit’s HALO will clearly communicate any such cases with employees beforehand.

    Skills and Abilities:

    ● Ability to influence and guide individuals in a manner that is beneficial to their success.

    ● Problem solving capabilities that take into consideration the different needs and capabilities of individuals with developmental disabilities.

    ● Ability to utilize conflict resolution strategies and other preventive strategies needed to interpret and respond appropriately to continually changing events.

    ● Strong communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication methods with patience when necessary.

    ● Understanding of processes involved in implementing individual support plan objectives.

    ● Effective record keeping and documentation practices.

    Essential Qualifications:

    ● Two years of experience working directly with individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities. Applicants with other relevant backgrounds will be considered where applicable (eg: health care/psychiatric care, human services, education, etc.)

    ● Valid driver’s license and clear driving record.

    ● Ability to lift/push/pull a minimum of 50lbs, specifically in relation to providing physical assistance to residents. This includes but is not limited to pushing wheelchairs, assisting residents with mobility issues, and supporting residents who are at risk of falling.

    ● English language proficiency.

    ● Proficiency using electronic devices such as tablets and computers for email and word processing activities. Experience with Quickmar or other assisted living software preferred.

    ● Basic math skills.

    ● High school diploma. Exceptions may be made for applicants with substantial experience.

    ● All applicants must complete a successful drug test and criminal background check.

    Training Requirements

    ● Completion and maintenance of all state mandated certifications including:

    ○ Medication Administration

    ○ Behavioral Principles Strategies (BPS)

    ○ Virginia State Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) Core Training

    ● Attend meetings and training sessions as required by DBHDS and Petit’s HALO, including annual training and training related to residents’ Individual Plans and Behavioral Plans
