    Position Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Trauma

    Location: Richmond, VA

    Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) in the medical trauma unit provides comprehensive nursing care to patients experiencing traumatic injuries or critical medical conditions. Working in a fast-paced and high-stress environment, the RN collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and compassionate nursing services.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Conduct initial assessments of patients' conditions, including vital signs, medical history, and trauma evaluation.

    Monitor and manage patients with traumatic injuries or critical medical conditions, providing interventions as necessary to stabilize and improve their health status.

    Administer medications, IV fluids, and other treatments according to physician orders and established protocols.

    Assist with diagnostic procedures and interpret laboratory and imaging results to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment planning.

    Coordinate and communicate effectively with physicians, surgeons, specialists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.

    Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding their medical conditions, treatment options, and post-discharge care.

    Document all patient care activities accurately and comprehensively in electronic medical records (EMR) systems, adhering to HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.

    Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, adhering to infection control protocols and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

    Participate in quality improvement initiatives, performance improvement projects, and interdisciplinary rounds to enhance patient care processes and outcomes.

    Collaborate with social workers, case managers, and community resources to facilitate discharge planning and continuity of care for patients.

    Qualifications:

    Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Virginia.

    BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred.

    Prior experience in a medical trauma or critical care setting strongly preferred.

    Strong assessment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to make rapid and sound clinical judgments in emergency situations.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

    Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

    Proficiency in utilizing electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other healthcare technology.

    Commitment to providing patient-centered care and upholding ethical standards of nursing practice.

    Willingness to pursue ongoing professional development and continuing education in the field of medical trauma nursing.

    Physical Requirements:

    Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients, and perform physical tasks required for patient care.

    Manual dexterity and visual acuity for administering medications, inserting IV lines, and performing other nursing procedures.

    Stamina and resilience to work extended shifts and respond to emergent situations as needed.
